High network activity on one of my IP cams. Should I be concerned?

OK, I figured it out. The cam in question gets quite a bit more activity than the other ones, and the traffic is it sending video clips back to the server PC. I don't know how to distinguish between traffic within the network and traffic in and out of then network, I am sure there is a way...

High network activity on one of my IP cams. Should I be concerned?

I don't think it's very different. Specs are 4 MP, etc https://www.securityinformed.com/hikvision-ds-2cd2342wd-i-ip-camera-technical-details.html The difference in network traffic magnitude is nearly 1000 times higher.

High network activity on one of my IP cams. Should I be concerned?

I have 6 IP cams on my LAN, managed by a Ubiquiti USG 3P/Cloud Key router and running a Blue Iris server on my PC. One of my IP cams has high network traffic that I can see on the Unifi console, showing typically 3-5 Mbps 'network traffic' continuously. It is an old Hikvision DS-2CD2342WD-I...

    Underwater camera?

    Hikvision backdoor? (WSJ article)

Link: Surveillance Cameras Made by China Are Hanging All Over the U.S. - WSJ In May, the Department of Homeland Security issued a cybersecurity warning saying some of Hikvision’s cameras contained a loophole making them easily exploitable by hackers. The department assigned its worst security...

"Don't buy cheap Chinese-made security cameras, because their security may just be terrible"

Reading in the article about all the ways the cameras are compromised, the problem seems to go beyond a simple failure to try hard enough to make them secure, I get the sense that the manufacturers are deliberately building backdoors in. Is that overly paranoid?

Windows 10 version 1703 update breaks Blue Iris on Win 10 N systems

Anyone else have this problem? My Windows 10 N PC just had the version 1703 OS upgrade (a big one) and since then Blue Iris won't open. Message: 'The code execution cannot proceed because WMVCore.DLL was not found. I believe the update uninstalled/broke the Windows media player/media feature...

    IPC-HDW4231EM-AS passes the impact test

Was installing my new IPC-HDW4231EM-AS in a spot about 12 feet high on an outside wall. In a moment of distraction I fumbled it and it dropped down straight on the concrete surface below and landed hard, see the dent: Miraculously, it still works and has been in continuous service for over...

    Idyllic wintry scene

When I bought the house that was a scrubby field of buried boulders. I rented a small excavating machine and with the help of a talented landscape guy built a stream and a paver pathway. Now it's my 'zen garden.' With a camera, even when I'm at work or can't be outside I can pull it up on the...

Where are the Huisun 10x ptz's on Ali?

I do value your opinions. It just seems odd to me that the forum experts/moderators are so strident and angry about these cameras and that anyone would buy one or say anything good about them. To me, their(your) opinions would be much more convincing if the tone were more measured and...

Where are the Huisun 10x ptz's on Ali?

My 2 Huisun V.2s are running great, my favorite cams and a complete bargain. They are not 'garbage'/'trash'/'crap' in my opinion. You could make your point and be much more diplomatic if you said, 'In my opinion, Huisun failure rates are incredibly high and I would not recommend buying one.'

    Klasipca?

Really? (not mislabeled). I prefer the Huisun image, acknowledging that as a 4 MP camera it's low light performance is not expected to be great. As they say, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. But this was not supposed to be a scientific comparison of cameras, just a gestalt opinion in...

    Klasipca?

It's a philosophical thing. Some people want a higher reputation brand item that presumably will be more durable. Others want maximum features at a bargain price, and are willing to take a chance on failure. When I bought the Huisuns, I chose the latter option, and so far have been happy with my...

    Klasipca?

Fair enough. The point is, the Huisun is very functional, web interface is fine, much better than the cameras I bought from Empire Security, ('NVT's or whatever. I do agree, the Hikvision interface is excellent). And for an extra 30% cost, I got PTZ (with IP66), which has proven very helpful...
