    Covert night camera - recommendations

https://www.oaic.gov.au/privacy/your-privacy-rights/surveillance-and-monitoring/security-cameras/ From the looks of this, then yeah, you've nothing to worry about even if you're filming in other people's gardens. Bloody hell lol

    Covert night camera - recommendations

You don't have to display signs if you're only recording on your own property, this thread is about hidden cameras filming a shared public space.

    Covert night camera - recommendations

I'm no lawyer but I install cameras for a living and I know that here in the UK you're breaking the law if you even have a bright red camera with flashing lights on it boutside your house filming a public space unless you have a very good reason and public signage. Privacy may be more lax in...

    Covert night camera - recommendations

I'm not sure about the states, but in the UK recording the public areas around your house is fairly common, but we have to display a sign that cctv is installed. Though in fairness that sign can go anywhere so you can stick it on your back fence and technically you're OK. It's the covert thing...

    Covert night camera - recommendations

Unless the whole street belongs to you, it's property that isn't yours. Essentially you're talking about constantly recording everyone around their homes, without their authorisation, with hidden cameras. I'm not saying you'd definitely get in trouble, but if I wouldn't want to be trying to...

Recommendations for a showy camera (maybe WIFI) or even a fake

Bloody hell. I can understand it for low voltage stuff like mains but not elv like cameras. Oh well, I suppose it keeps the professionals in a job lol.

Recommendations for a showy camera (maybe WIFI) or even a fake

I mean fit a poe network switch and plug it in, then run new network cables back to it. Is that really something an electrician needs to do?

Recommendations for a showy camera (maybe WIFI) or even a fake

If you have power and a little room where the existing camera is, you could just fit a 4 port poe switch and cable any new cameras from there.

Hikvision G1 Firmware on DS-2CD2185FWD-I space on micro sd

Modern compression (like H264/H265) will vary in how much data a scene takes depending on how much changes from frame to frame. As for the actual storage vs stated storage, that's going to be the same for all cards unfortunately. The better ones will (in theory) last through more write cycles...

    LPR Feasibility

Loads of hik and Dahua cameras have the slot. a 64gb sd recording on motion only will give you months in most domestic uses. That's why I specified well installed. I install alarms for a living but they have to be done properly, the panel should have tampered immediately upon the lid being...

    LPR Feasibility

In regards to your last question - most ip cameras can be set up to record directly to either an sd card or network storage. I always like to have the cameras record to a separate nas, on top of the normal nvr recordings, but only on motion or alarm. Another step could be to have your switch...

    Add microphone to camera

If it's an IP camera with audio capabilities (even if through an external mic) then it will reach the nvr as part of the camera feed, though you may have to enable the audio on that channel on the nvr side as well as through the camera properties. You also usually need to actually click on an...

Pole mounting something like the Dahua IPC-HDW2231R-ZS from a commercial ceiling joist

You can get the fancy looking ones like that, but the standard mounting base is also threaded to the rear so you can thread it straight on to the conduit https://www.dahuasecurity.com/uk/products/productDetail/1089 Or worst case scenario, you thread the conduit into a galvanised terminal box...

Pole mounting something like the Dahua IPC-HDW2231R-ZS from a commercial ceiling joist

Dahua do a standard mounting base that could be secured to conduit. It's 20mm here in the UK, I'm not sure what size it is in imperial heathen land but it'll probably tell you in the specs for the American model of the base. I also regularly see cameras mounted straight on to basket or tray if...

Adding cams; UPS/Switch in the garage ok?

You could house the battery externally. You can buy ventilated and fanned cctv cabinets that would maybe help a bit, but ultimately if it's warm outside the cabinet then fans aren't going to make an awful lot of difference as long as the equipment is installed somewhere well ventilated to begin...

Camera Tolerance to 12V Supply Fluctuations

You should be able to get something that will smooth out the voltage. You could probably whip something together yourself with a few capacitors. Something like this Cocar Car DC 12V 4A Voltage Stabilizer Surge Protector Power Supply Regulator for Auto Truck Vehicle Boat Solar System...

I had to reset my Hikvision NVR to factory default, now says "No link" in the Live feed for the hikvision camera's connected

If the password hasn't changed on the nvr, the new cameras will be added with the same password as the old ones. The issue here was that you defaulted the nvr, which resulted in you changing the password for it AND the password it used to connect to the cameras. If you default they nvr, you're...

I had to reset my Hikvision NVR to factory default, now says "No link" in the Live feed for the hikvision camera's connected

The nvr password is pushed to the cameras through the plug and play setting on the nvr - once they're defaulted, the nvr pretty much takes them over. If you change the password of the nvr after the cameras are set up though it can get a bit funny if you then add new cameras as I think it keeps...

I had to reset my Hikvision NVR to factory default, now says "No link" in the Live feed for the hikvision camera's connected

If the nvr channel is set to plug and play, they should pretty much set themselves up once you reset them. It should also sort out the fact that you've got 2 cameras with the x.x.x.7 ip address

Are junction boxes necessary for camera installs?

Depends on where the camera is being installed. If it's well sheltered and conspicuous, I'll just drill a bigger hole and mount the camera directly for a cleaner look. If it's a high level out of the way, I'll use a back box because it makes it easier to weatherproof and fit usually. Holes...

Anybody use OpenVPN server on Windows

I've had openvpn running on my own server (ubuntu 14.04 then 16.04) running for years. I set one up on a pi with raspbian last year for my father in law. Zero issues bar me forgetting to update the certificates, and both were set up in under an hour (including installing the OS) so I'd have to...

IPCT IPCT Upgrade Tonight! - Oct. 11, 2019

I had to clear my cookies. Browsers of any type store info related to the address. After a major upgrade, some of the info will just be wrong. I took it as a cue to clear my browser data, it's usually a good idea to do it every now and again anyway.

BlueIris computer = Dell Optiplex 9020 MT Core i7-4770 3.4GHz tower. Limited to 2TB. Can go 4 or 8TB somehow?

2tb is a limit for mbr formated drives. If you're not booting from a large drive, just format it with gpt and the full capacity will be available. https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/help/2581408/windows-support-for-hard-disks-that-are-larger-than-2-tb
