    Shopping List quick check/recommendations

So basically it comes down to just "preference" of whatever the form-factor I guess. I do like the bullets more....but dunno if they are worth 30 bucks+ more with no audio (it's odd to me they have no mic?)

    Shopping List quick check/recommendations

I am curious why the bullet version is more expensive than the turret version? I guess just because starlight+. Is there a "reasonably" priced starlight+ turretthat has a mic? I didn't see any on the store at least.

    Shopping List quick check/recommendations

So i've more or less narrowed down what I want to start out with, but just need a quick "gut check" to make sure I am not missing anything. (Recommendations gathered from "Least Damaging" installation method? , thanks everyone for your input there) Tools/Cables/Etc: Crimper: Klein Tools...

    Pandemic threat? Anyone else concerned?

I mean, at least where I am at I haven't really seen much restriction. In Kentucky at least Beshear did a pretty good job (compared to other states) with keeping Infection/Hospitalization low. Both sides seem to like him as he isn't super heavy handed, but also you can tell really wants to do...

    That camera is following us...

Any particular reason Dahua removed it? Some sort of legal thing I guess?

    That camera is following us...

Man I would love to get myself one of these, but they are expensive! lol How much is the "go-to" recommended Dahua model? I can't seem to find a model number that matches the dahua site but I am guessing this one is a solid one...

    Progressive Liberal Hypocrisy

I wouldn't say I am liberal, probably more left leaning moderate. Maybe would say liberal to sociocultural issues. I would say surveillance (from what I can tell) a lot of times seems to seem that way but I think it depends on the area/state. I will say that the majority of people I work with in...

    I’m just looking!

I come from a "Gun heavy state" (Kentucky) and although I consider myself a Moderate Democrat but I absolutely understand why guns are necessary in this state. For example there have been a slew of recent break-in's here lately in cars. Now it's mostly unlocked cars, and it's mostly teenagers...

    "Least Damaging" installation method?

Cool thanks. I am looking at this, https://www.amazon.com/Loryta-IPC-B5442E-ZE-Starlight-Network-Motorized/dp/B07SYFLGZY and it seems ideal as far as price range. From what I can tell the only difference between that and Amazon.com : EmpireTech IPC-T5442T-ZE 4MP IR Vari-Focal Eyeball Starlight...

    "Least Damaging" installation method?

Thanks for the info. As far as settings I imagine i'll try and "test" outside at night to ensure I get good images. I assume focal distance is a main factor of course (zooming in on certain spots that are more "pinpoint" cameras. But I am pretty ignorant with the rest of the settings. Is there...

    "Least Damaging" installation method?

Looks like Kentucky is a one party consent state for recording (audio) so I should be good there. And I don't necessarily need the 2231 if there is something better out. Since that one didn't have audio and with all the recent break-in's here it may not be a bad idea to be able to record audio...

    "Least Damaging" installation method?

IPC-HDW2231R-ZS was what I had before and I liked it. Seems like they no longer make that maybe? Originally I didn't want audio...but with a string of car break in here lately maybe it's not a bad idea? I just know some "laws" are kinda grey about recording and such. Any advice on audio vs not...

    "Least Damaging" installation method?

Hi all, I had (in our previous home) 3 Dahua Bullet cameras (I forget the model name) installed in the soffit's. It worked ok as we don't have crazy high winds. However I hated drilling out gigantic holes to mount the cameras. Anyways, we moved to a much newer house (only around 3 years old)...

Mounting to Soffit with no backing?

I did want to try that, but unfortunately I don't have the proper tools to cut aluminum.

Point to Junction Boxes for Soffit Mount?

    If the pigtails sit above the soffit into the attic though it seems like they would be pretty protected (I ended up putting on the weatherproof connectors for all of them);

Mounting to Soffit with no backing?

Good to know. There are some places where I don't have super good access to so i've had to mount my 3 camera's to the Vinyl Soffit...but I haven't seen any "shake" under any conditions. Although at some point i'll probably slip a piece of plywood or something in between and re-drill them to go...

Point to Junction Boxes for Soffit Mount?

So I have 3 IPC-HDW2231R-ZS camera's. When I originally ordered the first 2 (Thanks Andy!) I ordered them with junction boxes. However I ended up actually mounting them directly to the soffit (Which we don't have any crazy weather here and they actually seem VERY secure for just being to the...

Remoting to Blue Iris PC from different VLAN?

Ah good point. Completely forgot about the Windows Firewall TBH.

Remoting to Blue Iris PC from different VLAN?

Hmmmm, are you using the generic Windows 10 RDP? Since that's what im using (and trying to connect via Microsoft RDP on OSX). The USG i'd imagine would be able to route them.

Remoting to Blue Iris PC from different VLAN?

Is this possible? I have Blue Iris installed on a small Dell Business class PC. It's on the same VLAN and Subnet as the Camera's. However the Blue Iris PC needs to be tucked back into a closet (IE: No monitor/keyboard/etc..). I figure "Oh well I can just remote desktop to it from my other...

Mounting to Soffit with no backing?

Has anyone done this? I mounted my first Security Camera on my front door on the soffit and used some 2x4 between the joists to screw to (got at least 1 screw in so it's pretty secure). But i've also seen video's where people just mount them to the vinyl/aluminum soffit (Just screwing them in)...

Do I use Junction Box if I mount to soffit?

Gotcha, yeah the connectors will be up in the attic so they should be hidden from water damage. I already own the junction boxes so I didn't know if it would be any benefit to go ahead and use them?

Do I use Junction Box if I mount to soffit?

So I think im going to be mounting to my soffit (well soffit like material thats above my front door). I was supplied with the PFA130-E junction boxes to go with my 2231R's. However since im going to be screwing it straight to the ceiling....is using the junction box worthwhile? Also side note...

    Installing in Vinyl Outdoor Roof?

I did some looking around and it seems like for both the front and back door it might make sense to put them slightly lower. Would it maybe work to Mount them slightly lower on the PFA130-E screwed into the Vinyl wall and then use conduit to go up to the ceiling/attic? (if anyone has done this...

    Installing in Vinyl Outdoor Roof?

Well this isn't Vinyl siding exactly it's this thin stuff called Beadboard that goes on the ceiling. Also honestly it's probably not actually 10-12ft it might be a bit lower. I guess one option is running the cable through some sort of conduit and mounting it to the side of the vinyl...

    Installing in Vinyl Outdoor Roof?

So I received my 2 Dahua Camera's today, they will be going on the roof in both my front porch and back porch. However im really not sure the best way to do this. The roof is about...10-12 feet high (so perfect for IDing faces). I've attached a couple of pictures of both the attic above (I have...

Do you think Audio is "worth it"?

fwiw I ended up ordering the 2231, saved me a 100 bucks for 2. I figure if I ever need audio I can shell out for an extra one with audio.

Do you think Audio is "worth it"?

Thanks, I was looking at that thread originally. I do like the 60fps option (although it's probably not needed for me). I don't think the audio should be an issue since they will simply be at my front and back door where I don't think there can be considered an expectation of privacy.

Do you think Audio is "worth it"?

I think it probably does since most retail stores/workplaces have to put up signs for that.
