Airbnb bans the use of indoor security cameras....

No more indoor security cameras are allowed at Airbnb rentals....not sure why it took them so long to do this. https://www.cnn.com/2024/03/11/tech/airbnb-bans-the-use-of-indoor-security-cameras/index.html

Nvr 4.0 update crashed my nvr , restard non stop on nvr 4.0

You'll have to try reloading the previous version of software/firmware before the update to see if it recovers, but some manufacturers don't allow going backwards so it's best to contact them for support.

Replacing Water Heater Tank in Attic

My whole house filter canister is see through so I can look at the filter condition without removing it and I replace it about every six months. I was using the white sediment filters there but upon the recommendation of my water treatment company changed over to a charcoal filter that also...

Replacing Water Heater Tank in Attic

That left side filter is pretty nasty depending on how long it was in service before it was changed. My unfiltered tap water was that color before the city replaced the old galvanized pipe water main on my street. Now I'm starting the have bad flashback memories of those days. :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Replacing Water Heater Tank in Attic

It took me three years of fighting to get the city to replace the deteriorating galvanized pipe water main on my street which did help reduce the sediment and brown water issues but our main still gets crap from older galvanized pipe mains connected to it that have not been replaced. My water...

Replacing Water Heater Tank in Attic

My city water tap for my home is located at the very end of the water main so I get all of the crap that ends up at the end of the main. A fire hydrant is there that the city uses to flush the main every so often but I have to filter my water and the city does not reimburse any of those costs.

Replacing Water Heater Tank in Attic

When I lived in South Florida it was quite common to see water heaters outside either directly exposed to the elements or inside small outdoor enclosures just big enough for the water heater. I'm sure their life expectancy was probably shorter but they were sitting outside none the less.

Replacing Water Heater Tank in Attic

Converting over to tankless is very expensive compared to just replacing the water tank and the ROI just isn't there for most people, plus the tankless systems require maintenance. Every time I get estimates to convert my current hot water tank to tankless it's just not worth the high cost.

Replacing Water Heater Tank in Attic

If the hot water tank is located in the attic above the garage I would have relocated it to the garage space instead of the attic. These new tanks aren't built to last so you'll probably have to replace it again within 10 years, and by then you'll be much older. :lmao: :lmao:

    Hungry Homeless

Around here we have panhandlers on the street corners with signs asking for money and sometimes there will be 3-4 of them working all corners of the same intersection. Other times people will approach you inside shopping stores or the parking lot asking for money. If you offer to buy them a meal...

For the through hole caps I'll just grab them with one hand and gently pull while heating the solder joints on the bottom side with the other hand and they'll usually slide right out. The Hakko air torch works really well for this. Then I'll clean up the vias and solder in the new caps.

My NVR is down to three cmeras

Nice videos but I don't agree with some of the techniques they demonstrated. Not all soldering wick has built in flux and it's just the plain wick. I would never take a screwdriver to break free solder because that's a sure fire way to damage the board and just isn't the proper way to remove...

My NVR is down to three cmeras

I have the Chip Quick flux as well and it's a bit thicker in body but should still work. The flux is applied to the solder joint on the board and not to the soldering iron tip. If the solder is balling up that usually means the soldering iron tip needs to be cleaned. A dirty soldering iron tip...

QUESTION: Who pays for shipping costs of Empiretech defective Product? you or customer?

That happened to me once when I bought a new Lorex dome camera for outside but wasn't happy with the end results so I put it in my crawlspace under the house as a sump pump cam and it works great for that purpose. I would not expect Lorex to pay return shipping just because the camera didn't fit...

    Video Wall

There's really not enough detail regarding your setup to be very helpful. What is the specific application for this and how is it set up now versus what you want it to be? When you say you have resources available, exactly what does that mean?

Yeah....the Metcal doesn't really handle large through-hole parts very well because it's designed more for small SMT components. I can solder most SMT component sizes under the microscope, but some people don't have a steady hand and can't do it. Not sure if you've seen these but there are some...

My NVR is down to three cmeras

The PCB boards and components from that ERA were built tough and could take a lot more heat before damaging anything but the PCB boards of today are cheaply made and consist of mostly SMT parts so it doesn't take much to damage the board or rip off a solder pad. Those things can usually be...

I have access to two Metcal soldering stations and just bought a new one last month, plus we have a variety of differnt tips to choose from which is really nice. What you want to use is a flux pen like this one from Amazon.. I use Kester brand for work but they're more expensive. For de-soldering you take the cap off the flux pen and apply the tip to whatever solder joint your removing and press up/down several times which will dispense the flux. Then...

My NVR is down to three cmeras

I work in embedded hardware design engineering so PCB rework is part of what I do for a living. I enjoy soldering although it can be both challenging and frustrating at times working with very tiny SMT parts and soldering in really tight fit spaces without damaging anything.

My NVR is down to three cmeras

There were issues with bad caps from a counterfeit supplier many years ago that impacted most product manufacturers in the electronics industry. Be careful with using solder suckers because they can suck the pads right off the PCB along with the solder. Most low cost manufactured PCB's are not...

    Wireless camera connect to NVR

Go into the GUI on the NVR and do a camera search. If the wireless camera is on the same network then the NVR should find it, or you can enter the IP address manually. It's best to assign a static IP address for the wireless camera so it does not change during a network router reboot or power...
