Replacement of BI machine with new NVR

Nobody loves PC's more that me. I built my first one in about 1982 with a whopping 5Mb hard disk. Imported the bits from Taiwan. No I'm not telling you may age!!!!

Replacement of BI machine with new NVR

OK, could it be that the PC power supply with its bigger smoothing capacitors 'bled out' a little slower than the much smaller NVR power supply? Anyway, not really of importance - I'll leave that to someone with a higher pay grade than me :)

Replacement of BI machine with new NVR

I'm assuming that's because the NVR has the POE built in whereas the PC does not. My current set up is a POE hub in the cupboard which feeds the cameras, and then ethernet connections to a BI PC as well as another NVR. I don't use the POE on the NVR at all. The NVR stores about a week of motion...

Replacement of BI machine with new NVR

Hi, Haven't got anything because no recommendations. Tweaked BI a bit more and added a 10TB external HDD to supplement the 500GB SSD. Seems to be working, but running a full blown PC 24/7 just sucks power. Pete

Replacement of BI machine with new NVR

Yep, realise that perfectly. If I wanted to, I could run it all on a Raspberry Pi, but I want something branded that will be just set and forget

Replacement of BI machine with new NVR

I've tinkered a lot with BI. I just don't want to run a full blown PC 24/7 any more :)

Replacement of BI machine with new NVR

Hi All, Been a while, so here's the background. I initially installed a Concord 4K 8 channel (rebranded ZhuhaiRa Zhuhai Raysharp Technology Co.,Ltd system for Australia) which is still working perfectly. On top of that I installed a Win 10 Core i8 system with Blue Iris that is fed from the same...

Changing out old storage hard disk

Hi All, My system is set up to record clips to an external 4TB hard drive. I'm up to 95% and want to swap it out for another disk. Several questions. 1. Can I just unplug the old one and plug in the new one? -Does BI handle the database etc and re-initialise all the storage folders on the new...

    Clip Storage

Hi, would someone be so kind as to explain in simple terms how to set up storage for the clips generated by BI. I have a 4TB external USB3 storage drive dedicated to BI. What I have done so far is to leave the 'New' and 'Stored' folders alone setting them to 7 days and 14 days respectively. I...

Is there a short-cut to turn all cameras to continuous recording in BI?

OK, I'm still a little confused, so, here is what I have done so far. 1. Under Main Menu/Settings Info/Profiles, I have renamed Profile 2 "Continuous". Temp time is set at 480 for all profiles. Can I have a quick explanation of this please? 2. I then selected a camera and went into Camera...

Hi, Currently all my cameras are set to record with Motion Detection. In the event of an emergency, is there a quick short-cut to enable continuous recording on all cameras? Thanks Pete

Dual NIC setup on your Blue Iris Machine

An excellent site to give you peace of mind is grc.com and click on Shields Up. Spend a half hour there and you will learn a lot about vulnerability. I forgot who pointed me there in the first place, but it was someone on this site (thanks forever!).

Dual NIC setup on your Blue Iris Machine

I agree with your statement 100%. That's all I was getting at in the first place. If you leave the WAN address empty and just access through a VPN, you have the best solution. If you're not an expert (and I'm not) the VPN local IP path IS the best solution

Dual NIC setup on your Blue Iris Machine

If you follow the wizard, and it utilises uPNP, you will open 81 to the world, otherwise you would not be able to access BI form outside your home network. I respect your opinion, but we will have to agree to disagree :)

Dual NIC setup on your Blue Iris Machine

I'm not sure whether this bit was answered in previous posts, but I'll put my 2c worth here. In this image posted soon as you hit OK, you have opened up port 81 to the ENTIRE UNIVERSE. The whole point of security is to prevent this, SO, DELETE THIS ENTRY COMPLETELY and double check it after...

    This is really difficult...

If you have a cloud service that let's you upload 15-20Gb data per day, let the world know! We'll all sign up :-) Loud fan is a problem with the fan, not the HD.

Getting ready to buy first cameras and would like your opinion on best choices.

Impossible for me to say without having the other camera beside it. The fact is - all surveillance systems have pluses and minuses

Consider the 4K cameras from Jaycar - the top one being this one. I'm from the land of OZ as well and I have these cameras. Crystal clear and I can offer help in getting them into Blue Iris. They're expensive, but you get what you pay for...
