I want to put a 2K or higher, 2 way audio, Blue Iris compatible (i.e., rtsp, http or onvif ready) doorbell cam by front door and wireless chime inside. The old traditional doorbell, chime, transformer and wiring were ripped out during a remodel a decade ago. An electrical outlet is located on the other side of the wall and down 3 or 4 feet from where the doorbell will be mounted. The wi-fi signal (2.4 & 5 GHz) are strong in the spot where the doorbell will be mounted. What are my options?
Buy a Reolink Doorbell. Although most Reolink cameras get little love on IPCT, their doorbell cameras are great.
I have 2 of the Wi-Fi versions since June of 2023, streaming reliably to Blue Iris. They are linked to a dedicated 5GHz access point.
If you are unable to run CAT-5e/6 cable from the doorbell to a POE switch or injector for power and and data and purchase the POE version of doorbell, then purchase the Wi-Fi version.
The Wi-Fi version will need 12 to 24 VAC or DC to power it.
Both versions will ring the supplied plug-in, wireless chime.
You can plug in a 12-24VAC transformer or a 24VDC UL-listed power supply into that outlet and run the wires through the wall to power the doorbell. Although they are low voltage I would still run them in PVC, non-split corrugated flex conduit where in the wall to facilitate their initial installation and future maintenance.
