Goal:
2 outdoor camera setup
1080pi resolution (want to be able to easily identify face + license plate within 50 ft)
watch from my phone with wifi and without having to be on wifi
Ability to record 7-14 days worth of footage before it writes over itself
I rent my house out via Airbnb so I'm assuming the best place for the NVR is the attic?

NVR: I'm assuming this is the best option? I don't have a dedicated computer that would be able to hold the recordings… but would it be cheaper to build a cheap PC/laptop as my recorder?
1- Store Nvr in attic? Gets too hot?
2- What if I want to keep a portion of the video?
a. Ex- I see someone break into the house and I want to keep that portion of the video. Do I access the video from NVR via internet and download it or something? Do I plug the NVR into my computer?
3- Does the NVR have to be plugged into a monitor? I will most likely will review incidents off phone, then pull video from the nvr. How would I pull from the NVR?

Camera:
1- Motion sensor - I'm worried about lag time.
a. Ex- someone breaks in but that run in so you miss their face and when they leave you just see the back of their head.
2- Watch via phone or web browser whenever I want I would just run a cord from NVR to router
a. Would this kill bandwidth?
b. Or would it kill bandwidth only when I go to view it?
i. If so, how do I use the cams via my phone and not kill bandwidth?

Cameras I'm planning on buying:

not one of those cameras can ID a face or license plate within 50ft.. mebe 15ft if your lucky, go to: https://ipvm.com/calculator

NVR:
1. Attics are too hot, secure it in a locking cabinet or ventilated safe.. Get Cameras with onboard SD Storage and you can simultaneously save to local SD and NVR so the'd have to locate and remove both ends of the system.. if your doing VRBO you should have some area that is secured from visitors that you stash your personal belongings, put your NVR here.
2. Download it, upload it to youtube and share it with the rest of the world.
2a. NVR WebUI or App should allow you to download recordings via network.
3. Not after the initial network setup, no

Camera:
1: Record continuously 24/7 and use motion to flag possible events on the timeline.. 2 cameras is really not enough especially if you have 50ft distances to work with.. your going to need more and you install the cameras in the right places so they get facial shots easier.. ie, choke points at head height
2: Remotely you will likely watch the sub-streams, and you will configure these to fit within your upload celing.. quality may be low depending on your internet connectivity and will only impact when your streaming it remotely.. local recordings will still be high quality and unimpacted.

1- well noted about attic. Good call about the secured area - I have a closet I can easily store the NVR into. Also thanks for the tip about the local SD.
2- noted
3- great

cam:
1- good idea. Also heard about pre-recording as an option
2- noted

thank you so much for taking the time to respond! very good info and helped a lot. Ya I want to start with 2 cams and might expand up to 4 cams. My house has only 2 real choke points so I don't need that many cameras.
