2021 April Dahua Full Color Camera

I'm hoping the price in the Uk is around the same as the Hikvision comparable model which is £120 Plus VAT

Well 120 GBP + VAT is about $205 USD. US distributors currently sell the Hik for closer to $230 (actually both versions of the Hik models (with / without audio) come in around the same), less of course for trade and volume but I would expect Dahua to be marketing theirs (that has additional features) around the same bracket i.e. $230 - $240 maybe a little less but we'll see. Unfortunately chip shortages also drive up the costs so right now it may come out of the gate higher then drop as chip supply meets demands and resumes a balance over time. Just my 2c or about 1 shiny penny :)

Here is one of the areas I would be interested in putting one of these cameras. It is 56 feet from the face of the gate to the face of the camera. One thing about the Hikvision version is I know how to take it apart and adjust the lens. Maybe the Dahua version will be just as easy.

I'll include distance to target when I do the review @Parley and if I haven't covered that distance then I will setup a test to replicate it in almost a face on approach. Will measure the distances I've tested at today. Already have a ton of footage that will be included in the review. Again as you know I'm not interested in marketing hype or manufacturer demo's that show amazing bright scenes by the cam with crap (or worse) motion blur when used in real applications with real lighting so you know you'll get the full rundown from me :)

I'm also testing primarily against a 5442 as this is currently the night champion and most people's picks (many of you along with myself are interested in how this stacks up). I'm also going to see if I can get my hands on one of the new Hik's for a direct comparison (will follow later after initial review) update as well. I've done some prelim testing (just for curiosity sake) with an older 5831 and one of my (still) favorite cams 1831/2831's (1st gen which IMO were the best of those generation models).

Thank you @EMPIRETECANDY for the Fast shipping always.

Thank you to @bigredfish for pointing out this camera IPC-HFW5242H-Z6E-MF. Thank you always @Wildcat_1 also for all his help last month and learn a lot from his dialing of my cams and still learning..

I wanted to put this camera as dedicated for people walking specially at night, since my street can get pretty dark given that this camera is 1 1.8 @ 2mp I am expecting it to be better for low light. Just received this about an hour ago, Right out the box I can say camera is very well built.

I will be posting some video of night / day time on this Once I mount it hopefully will get to mount it either this week or next. Here are some initial pictures right out the box.

Thanks for your input WC, I'm in the market for another fixed 8mp camera and I don't mind forking outa few shillings more than the Hikvision as I feel Hiks Web GUI is no where as good as Dahua and SLOW. looking forward to your review as interested in the additional features.

Really looking forward to seeing how that does...

The DORI is the part I was interested in. I wanted to see how close you can identify someone. I will be interested to see what Wildcat_1 has in his writeup.

Lens Detect Observe Recognize Identify: 2.8mm 82.8m (271.7 ft) 33.1m (108.6 ft) 16.6m (54.5 ft) 8.3m (27.2 ft)
3.6 mm 120.4 m (395.1 ft) 48.2 m (158.1 ft) 24.1 m (79.1 ft) 12.0 m (39.4 ft)
Will have 6mm , but the data sheet not put on it

@tech101 - finally someone here got a 2MP on the 1/1.8" sensor! I think that will absolutely rock and can't wait to see your comparison against the other great cameras you already have!
I am eagerly waiting for the sunset today haha Wanna test this even if that means it will have to be on a floor or chair just wanna see what it can do as well. Keep you posted. Hopefully this week or next will mount it so we can see the real world tests.

The settings I would have to still play but Damnn I am already impressed by this camera. This is after sunset a bit of light was still there but this camera is damn amazing seems like for low light.

Here is one of the clip -

Wanted to stay outside more so it can completely get dark but as you can see it is really windy today, So May try it tommorow again or maybe even just get it mounted and get more videos soon. :)

@tech101 Dang that looks good!

What shutter speed was that - nice clear caps of the car and plate in freezing the video?

Making you wish you opted for the 2MP version of your recent PTZ purchase yet LOL?

Making me wish to go ahead and maybe get another PTZ .. :(

Anyways more test to come..

@tech101 What is the cost on that HFW5242H-Z6E-MF?

The camera is just temp hanging from a rain gutter lol the best I could do for now from Zip ties, this is just because I couldn't wait haha To see what it can do so this is all temp. Sorry The image is a bit crucid because of this.

Anyhow here is the daytime footage and current settings.

Once again just to be clear not the best angle or anything. As the camera is just held by zip ties and it is really Windy outside so not sure how well it is holding up or shaking the cam or anything like that.

Also the price of this cam is around $300 USD

It would help if you could get some similar video from a 5442 located in the same general area so the differences in performance can be better compared. I know it may not be possible and a big PITA to do something like that, but I can dream :)

Why are the night time samples in BW / IR?

I thought the whole point of this camera like the Hik was to enable full colour at night. ATM, I've seen nothing to persuade me toward Dahua when compared to the
Hikvision ColorVu + 4K (DS-2CD2087G2-L). To me from what I've seen so far the 8mp Hik is still the king.
