New firmware is available for 2x42 / 2x22 series. Still no Chrome support, but at least they fixed flicker as well as IQ a bit better. Also UI now looks like Hikvision NVR.

1. The area number for intrusion detection and line crossing detection changed from 4 to 1, ROInumber changed from 4 to 1, Playback number changed from 2 to 1. Ensure the stability ofcamera.
2. Optimize the image quality.
3. H.264+ and Rotate Mode is supported simultaneously for 1.3MP and 2MP devices.
4. Solved defect:

not work?
I have Chrome 46 had 5.3.3 installed prior to that and it didn't work either

Yeah, I am using IE tab, gave up for solution for Chrome. Btw night IQ has improved a bit as well.

Is this firmware for DS-2CD2342WD-I with WR in the serial?

You need to open the firmware archive and there should be a PDF describing all of the cameras which the update will service.

5.3.6 is not for DS-2CD2342WD-I great!!

Picture quality is very nice, even with WDR on.

WDR @ 30

Can't wait to see if quality is any better at night mode.

Night picture was not so good, it had a weird noise surrounding all moving objects.
So I went back to 5.3.3. build 150826

I agree with Kroegtijgertje. Hikvision USA firmware 5.3.6 build 151105 was not a good step forward. Just finished testing it on a dozen DS-2CD2542FWD-IS and DS-2CD2342WD-I and was overall very disappointed. We experienced poor image processing that has plagued the Hikvision firmware for these models. Problems included high noise as well as very grey images with WDR (just was experienced in 5.3.3). In addition we had some poor interoperability with Hikvision NVR running v3.3.4 build 150616 with regards to motion detection and displaying of motion rules (green box highlighting of motion). I really hope Hikvision can get their act together and release a good firmware for this line of WDR value plus cameras since they truly are spectacular Cameras and because LTS, who Hikvision makes their cameras, seems to have perfected the picture quality.

So we are sticking to our guns that the best firmware for the DS-2x22,2x42 IP WDR Cameras is LTS 5.3.2 Build 150915 which doesn't suffer from the high noise and bad WDR grey levels. See the following thread: https://www.ipcamtalk.com/showthrea...-Hikvision-4MP-WDR-Performance-DS-2x42-IP-WDR

Strange, did you guys reset the camera? I am no longer getting gray images with WDR on which is the first improvement I noticed and daylight images improved a bit, but I must have lower expectations that firmware is not going to fix a low end noisy sensor magically.

I did reset the cam, and daytime quality was good, even with WDR.
But nighttime, which is most important to me, was bad.
It had a weird noise, surrounding moving objects, without the WDR active. And with the WDR active it was more noisy overall than 5.3.3 firmware.

5.3.3 gives me a very crisp nightpicture!

Thanks for sharing, that's my experience with night time as well with the 4MP dome which is mounted in front of the garage, but if nighttime was important this isn't the right cam. I can't wait to get rid of mine. While it gives you a decent picture of the surroundings it will be a hit and miss with trying to ID someone on this cam. You can't see a face of the delivery guy at all. Firmware isn't going to fix this.

You probably won't see the face of someone with bad intentions either.
Most criminals will hide their face, specially when they see a camera.

There were plenty of videos posted on this forum where criminals don't really hide the face and I would rather have a camera that can handle face recording in these conditions just in case.
