A number of years ago, the local authorities decided that all cats and dogs needed to have ear tattoos for identification. Being a rather libertarian area, this chapped people's butts here, and two main bumper stickers started showing up:

"The West wasn't won with a registered cat."

and

"You can have my cat when you pry it from my cold, dead fingers!"
