Getting the hang of it

Hi,

For years I have been using Blue Iris, love it but want a dedicated unit hence a dahua NVR.

This dahua nvr has 16 poe ports too.

Here are my questions please:

1) Do I windows format my new hard drive or will the Dahua NVR do it?

2) Will I still be able to go to my dahua camera's setup page remotely once the camera is relocated to my nvr?

3) Can I still use blue iris and my android IPcamviewer app? If so, will network settings have to be changed?

4) since my cameras are powered by a 2a 12v transformer for each camera do I now disconnect those transformers since I'll be using the poe function on NVR?

5) I know I can add all my dahuas on my lan but how about dahuas from a remote location clear across the state?

6) Is there a way to grab a file from NVR remotely or locally and save it to disk?

7) Lastly when adding a camera do you add its WAN ip or LAN ip or does it not matter.

I thank you in advance for any help

Just checking my calendar, Nope it's not April yet...

You do NOT have to use the poe ports on that NVR, You must be using a switch now, put the NVR(the management port) on the same subnet as your BI server and you will loose NO functionality to access your cams. And yes you can use Smart PSS or BI to access across your room or across the country. They can be used together, people do it all the time. As far as the HD is concerned, the NVR will check it and format it. I will not get into networking part here but the SEARCH function here on IPcamtalk will cover about everything you want to know, It has been covered so many times here.

Hope it's worth the investment. I don't use BI as a server just as a standalone PC program, problem is with 14 3 and 4 MP IP cameras it slows down the rest of the PC if I wish to multitask.
Hopefully this $299 16 channel/ 16 port POE Dahua NVR will do the trick.

You will be dissatisfied... spend the money on a dedicated PC...

I don't know how much faster I can get

Top of the line Intel CPU ($1,000) 32 gb ram/ SSD

Plus blazing fast internet 400/40

i7 5960x 16 core
Yup, no quick sync.... 400-500 for a complete i7 6700//7700....
Your processor could handle the load....you need to properly setup bi. ... but that processor is overpriced and a power hog...

I am going to a new build x299 2066 socket next month.

Which CPU do you recommend Fenderman ?

I was all set to buy a dahua NVR tomorrow but now not too sure and might just buy it and if it doesn't work well I'll return it.

I guess what you are saying as to why I'd be disappointed would be that a NVR will not give me the ease of operation and tons of customizeable settings as BI does?

Exactly....no point in building...see the threads discussing CPUs.... dedicate the PC to blue Iris
