A nice feature on most HDCVI Starlight cameras is adjustable Smart IR.

The Smart IR setting has a scale from 1-10 for how "smart" the IR should be.
A setting of 1 essentially means IR is on full-bore intensity no matter what, while 10 results in very quick "dimming" of the IR intensity when objects get close to the camera. For scenes where you dont want to wash out faces when they get close to the camera, the higher the setting the more the IR adjusts for close up objects to prevent wash out. It works pretty good.

Notice the intensity dim when the lady comes into view, (though it was already compensating for the white truck), and once the truck pulls away, it goes back to max intensity.

(Remember to set the Youtube player to 1080p)

Now that looks smart. Too bad the Dahua IP starlights do not have the "scale" setting on smart IR.
