One last video attempting to show off how fast and easy it is to review and play trigger events on UI3. It's 89 seconds long and I readily admit somebody that knows what they're doing could have done a better job. I finally got the mechanical part down, using OBS studio. Another one of those once you figure it out things, it's fairly easy to use.
Although there's a lot I like about UI3, reviewing clips is the masterpiece in terms of ease of use and productivity. Brilliant, I say. Each trigger event shows as a thumbnail. Just hovering over a thumbnail causes the clip to play fast-forward in a window. I get a LOT of false triggers on windy days like today, with the cameras thinking moving shadows and dancing trees are people. By moving the mouse pointer over the clips I can usually determine in 1 to 2 seconds if it's a false trigger or something I want to look at. No mouse clicks to preview a clip, one click to actually view it, with a 5 second pre-trigger buffer (configurable time of course as is practically everything in BI). The video goes from viewing all cameras, to reviewing clips, back to viewing all cameras.
While UI3 is fantastic for viewing, IMO BI (including UI3) remains a big pain in the butt to set up and configure. After using it for more than a year, I'm still tweaking settings for things that just work right on the NVR with no attention needed. Initial setup of the NVR was pretty straightforward, while it was a huge and painful learning curve with BI. Already knowing the NVR made it worse, with a lot of un-learning required. End result is I'll continue to use UI3 as the primary viewing platform, and keep the NVR because occasionally there's something about it that works better for me. If the recently teased AI coming to the NVRs is as good as it's made to sound, I might even buy a new NVR.
