Okay so I have some nice larger turret cameras have worked out great. But for a certain installation point between attic vent boards, I wanted a much smaller camera. Didn't need to have IR lights so this seemed to fit the bill. Product link (which supposedly had good reviews): US $25.5 12% OFF|Mini HD Audio POE IP Camera CCTV AI 2MP 1080p SONY IMX307 Black light Low XMeye ONVIF H.265|Surveillance Cameras| | - AliExpress
But upon receiving it even though the instructions were in English when I went to the default IP the login menu was in Chinese. First warning sign, LOL. Worse yet it seems like none of the functions worked when I logged in and it was prompting me to downgrade to an older browser. Trying to load in IE it wanted me to get some proprietary ActiveX control from a site that my browser said it was a security risk so I didn't trust that or try it.
Normally I like to have custom set IP addresses on my cameras and passwords with this one I wasn't able to set a password because as I said the web interface just wouldn't work without some sketchy executables. It did come with a CD, which included some software which allows you to change the IP so I figured what the heck I created a system restore point, installed it and it was able to change the IP. still wasn't able to set a password but I wanted to see if it worked in blue Iris so I tried to add it and initially it seemed like it was going to work but then the video stream dropped with total regularity and it would only show a still frame every few seconds.
This is unfortunate because it seemed like the hardware was actually pretty well made, at least it felt like solid, and it even had a protective cap for the optional power supply line, something I haven't seen on most cameras.
so if anyone happens to know any settings that will make this work in blue Iris please let me know I did the auto scan and tried to use that as well as some manual generic stuff but nothing except for the auto scan setting seem to work at all and those only work to give me about 1 frame every 5 or 10 seconds at first, then after a while it was streaming better but totally blurry I think it might just be junk? Unless some miracle settings can save it.
OR if anyone has a better small camera with similar specs to recommend if I can't get this one working, with menus in English that actually work, let me know, thanks.
