Any place for Dome and PTZ cameras, or just install varifocal turrets?

Dahua's turrets and varifocals often get recommendations from the "experts" here, but do Dome and PTZ cameras have any place in a home setup? Where might Dome and PTZ cameras be the idea cameras to use? I use the name turret here to also include eyeball cameras.

Assuming you have a PTZ camera, how do you use its PTZ function? Would a fixed camera have worked for you just as well?

Study this if you haven't: Cliff Notes.
It is almost always better to use more fixed cams than a PTZ. With a PTZ, if you are using it for security, you have a high probablity that it will be looking the wrong way when something happens.
Domes will have issue's with unwanted reflections and degrading over time, if used outdoors.
Fine for indoors.
