yes, the DO charge for cloud recording and is available...SmartCloud
openvpn is free if you run the server on your own pc...also if you buy an asus router with open vpn it will be free...
logmein hamachi is also reported to work well and not even need ddns service...i have not tested it.
I use logmein hamachi on one of my networks, It works surprisingly well it has some interesting security measures as in second factor auth, you can get emails when someone logs in your network, and see the ip adderss that are logged in, stuff like that. However I still like OpenVPN better you can run it at the router.

have you tested it on a network that does not provide a forward facing ip address? like lte/wisp or satellite? That would be a huge plus as well....

No I haven’t
I have confirmed that it works fine with the BI server on a test laptop tether to my cell...so this is a great option...
I connected from another pc...I was not able to extract the hamachi certificates on my android phone....gotta play with it later...

DDNS can be found for free easily, usually right in your router.

OpenVPN is included in many routers, no fees. Or can be loaded with alternate firmware for the router.

Randy : OpenVPN on a Asus router
Hi, so I have a brandy new Asus router RT-ACRH13. Thought maybe you could assist with initial setup of OpenVPN for BI remote access.
My current OpenVPN logfile looks like this. The IP listed here, is Wrong for my current ISP connection! Note: I've xx'ed out the actual IP address for obvious reasons. Thanx much!
