are the HIK NVR any good?

I need to put together a 5 CAM system for a family member. I figure the NVR is the simplest way to go. Setting up BI for them would just mean I'll be constantly answer calls.

Does the NVR allows hotspot/mask and email/text alerts?

Are there other NVR that supports HIKVISION that you would recommend over HIKVision?

Since I like HIKVISION cams and have used it, I'll go ahead with it.

4 outdoors and 1 indoors, I'm thinking maybe all five 3332/2332, I'm using a 2032 at my house but from what I read, the 2332 provides better night vision?

You are correct with camera choice.
Only Hikvision NVR's support HIK camera's fully, or HIK OEM NVR's
With 5 camera's I would go with the 7608n-se/p or 7816n-E2/p both are great NVR's and both use the same firmware.
