Asus Router 68U OpenVPN Setup issues :/

Few questions: I’m installing a VPN on my Asus router 68U and I have followed this document

I installed OpenVPN on my iphone and emailed the config file client.ovpn into the OpenVPN app and the error I am getting when I try to connect “Connection Time Out - Connection failed to establish within a given time”

#1. Do I need to setup a DDNS to asuscomm.com (lots of online pages say Asus no longer supports this, is there a different way?)
- I did set one up and I believe it’s working because I see my name when I look on the ASUS page: ASUS Nslookup
#2. Do you need Merlin (3rd party software) on the router for this to work?
#3. It seems like the issue I might be having is in the Authentication mode: TLS (I don’t have an option currently to pick 1.0./1.1/1.2 etc.) on my Asus 68u router
#4. Do I need to setup a VPN client on my router that has the same login and password as the Server Login and Password?
#5. Do I need OpenVPN installed locally on my windows computer?

I have everything set correctly from the page above as well I have went through Randy’s Home Projects page (which was posted on this forum somewhere)

I also shut down my Windows Firewall to see if that was holding back the connection

Does anyone have any ideas on what I can try next to get my phone connected into the VPN.

I tried this on my asus router with merlin and couldn't get it to work either. I have a asus domain but it doesn't work anymore and I'm on android.
 
I have the same setup and use OpenVPN. You have to download the OpenVPN app on your IPhone.
1. Login to your router on a computer in your home and setup the OpenVPN on it.
2. While on your WI-FI on your IPhone, go to a web browser and login in your asus router.
3. Go to the OpenVPN under the router settings and download the link to your FILES folder on your IPhone.
4. Open the OpenVPN app on your phone and then find the OpenVPN file that you downloaded and it will create the OpenVPN.

Interesting. Thanks for letting me know, I am trying with Apple but I'm thinking Merlin won't be my answer. Did you purchase a new router and did you get it to work?

Thanks for responding @camarolt1guy. In your reply you stated to use wifi to log into my router through my phone. I'm thinking you mean open a browser and go to 192.168.1.1 and log in with my phone? Both of the tutorials mention to email the .ovpn file to my phone and open the file with OPEN VPN app and import the file. I have done this and that's where I am stuck as it just times out. I attached my router setup on my first post. I can't figure out what I'm missing :/

Tried with 2 phone (even turned off mobile data and was only on wifi) I don't think you can get to an ASUS router 68U through a phone. It doesn't have an app like the newer routers.

You login to the router menu the same way as you do on a laptop. I think it’s router.asus.com

Then, follow steps 3&4.

Hello, yeah that's how I am doing it. On the ASUS 68U you have to export a file (attached picture) and then email it to my phone and then import it into OPEN VPN

`you install the "openVPN Connect" app then go to the router with your phone (by wifi) and add your VPN user and password, then click Export OpenVPN file and the phone will prompt you if you want to open it or not, then click "Open in OpenVPN" , agree to the service terms, click "add" then enter the user name, and password and check the box if you don't want to prompt for a password.Then on the connection page, switch the connection on, you will be prompt if you want to connect and connect.

@Rockjaw Best is to check the logging in your Asus 68u router, there should be more info on why you are not able to connect.
Probably you need to change "HMAC authentication" to SHA256 .

Awesome, I will give this a try. I didn't see anywhere online or in the forums to change this to SHA 1 or SHA 256
