home network is AT&T using Arris Bgw210-700. I have purchase a Asus Ac1900 to use between the att router and devices so here is my question

If I am reading things right I should setup the Arris as a pass through router to the Asus ac1900 to allow for openvpn. (Cannot setup openvpn on arris) From what I have been reading on the att support forum that many have tried and many have failed to be able to be successful in setting up passthrough. What other options, if any, are there to secure my network? Stumped at this point. My other option is to dump att, which I may do at end of contract anyway. My only other option at that point is Comcast. Am I on the right track or totally off base.

I have not attempted at this point. Am considering dumping att as they only offer att 25 in my area. I can get faster speeds from Comcast which is my only other choice. Will review the info you sent, thanks
