Audio on Dahua IPC camera

Hi all,

Got my first NVR and Dahua IPC camera today and so far I've failed to get audio to work. I've enabled audio in the settings but when playing back footage or watching live stream there's no sound.

To rule some possible causes out, I'd like to verify some things with more experienced members.

Q: do you need to connect the audio out of the camera to the audio in on the NVR in order to record audio, or is the PoE network connection sufficient? I hope it's the latter.

Assuming the NVR is Dahua like the camera, what are the NVR and camera model numbers?
 
Have you connected and powered a microphone to the camera. It does not have one builtin.
Be sure to turn off the "noise reduction" in the cameras audio settings if your attached a mic.
You will also need to connect powered speakers to the audio output on the NVR.
 
No, I was under the assumption that it had a builtin mic due to the spec sheet showing the supported codecs. Also the log shows some audio alarms, but at playback I couldn't hear anything.
