August 2, 2024 . . . the last time I purchased a camera. Looks like I may make it all through 2025 without buying another camera unless Dahua upgrades Andy's SD4A425DB-HNY without greatly increasing its size. :idk:

I kind of have to agree. Dahua don't really seem to have taken much of a stride forwards. Mobile phones, cameras and other devices seem to have improved especially in low light (and sometimes with the assistance of AI processing), yet not a lot seems to have happened on the CCTV front. We have a slight but worthwhile improvement to the 5442's in the S3 and that's about it. No replacement for the 4kt. No major breakthroughs. Surely an improved 4kt replacement has to be on the cards?

Until they integrate Animal AI on more of their cams, fahgetaboutit.

And, more cameras using the 1/1.8 sensor with animal detection.

Probably with animals, it's a niche market for a commercial company as most businesses don't guard against animals, although I agree, a few extra photos to the AI database so it can learn, and it's sorted. It's not exactly hard. What I find harder to understand is why there are such huge pauses in progress on the image front. New phones, action cameras every year brings improvements, but CCTV seems to sit static for years without very little development before the next break through camera. Only reason I can think of is maybe the companies manufacturing cameras don't think they can persuade people to upgrade more frequently with improved image quality so follow some kind of fixed product lifecycle instead. It's a shame because amongst enthusiasts and probably high value businesses eg banks, jewellers, dealers or storers of high value assets, I bet there's an appetite to change cameras more frequently as to these segments image quality is of much higher value as there's more at stake.
