Automatic Router/Modem Rebooter

And, wouldn't you know it....I'm out of town this week and the girlfriend shut down her company laptop at around noon yesterday because she had a hair appointment and did not return home until 6pm. That event ^^^^ happened and I could not access the router via VPN either to reboot it. So apparently, it's not just the WiFi that hangs. Had to wait until she came home to power cycle the router.

I saw that other thread, but I have zero ideas why disconnecting a VPN would cause the router to act like it is. My initial thought was perhaps one of the network segments being used by the VPN was a duplicate of your home network address range. That would certainly cause issues, but it would usually also prevent the VPN from connecting at all. Therefore I concluded that my initial thought is probably not the issue.

My suggestion would be to have your girlfriend reach out to her IT department to explain her problem. If anyone is going to understand what might be happening, it is probably the people in IT that maintain the VPN systems.

My only other thought is to say that upgrading the router to something more robust might be the solution to both problems (VPN disonnection problems, and reconnection issues with Spectrum), but that is a wild guess honestly.....

I used to run Web Power Switch for this purpose. It is a power strip with individually controllable outlets and a very customizable ping monitoring system via hardwired RJ45 ethernet. But I kept having trouble with the switching hardware failing and eventually stopped using them altogether because I am not sure they ever, even one time, were needed to restart my router and modem.
