I have an Axis P3228-LVE. It has zoom only. I can get an image but the Zoom controls do not work from within BI.

  1. The Zoom works from the camera's web UI.
  2. It also works from Synology Surveillance station using the SAME credentials.
  3. PTZ in enabled in BI camera settings.

I think BI is not sending the correct commands.
This is what the camera log shows when zooming works from Synology:

2019-01-20T17:34:27.114-08:00 Camera1 [ NOTICE ] monolith: RTSP UNKNOWN session 7V6lIr6o8BEM8.dH created from 10.110.xxx.xxx

This is what the log says when I click zoom in BI:

That camera is not a PTZ camera. It only has digital pan tilt that is why the pan tilt controls and blue iris don't work. You can accomplish the same thing with the mouse and scroll wheel in the camera window. Digital PTZ is useless as you can do so after the fact that anytime.

This camera does have optical zoom and, as stated above, the function works other software.

Yes optical varifocal. It has no pt function. So are you saying the zoom does not work? If so try using find inspect and the onvif option in the ptz drop-down. The PT will never work as it's not supported by the camera. The other software is just interfacing with the cameras useless digital pt.

I changed the original post to make it more clear. The zoom does not work, I realize there is no PT. Per my points 1&2 The zoom, optical, does in fact work, just not with BI.

Try the suggestions outlined in my previous post. Also note that if you changed the http port from 80 you need to set that in the ptz tab settings.

Also, keep in mind that the varifocal is not designed to be used as a live zoom. Its to be used at the time of install for positioning. This is explained in the axis manual "AXIS P3228-LVE is a streamlined, outdoor-ready 4K fixed dome that features a varifocal lens with remote zoom and focus, which facilitates installation and eliminates the need for hands-on fine tuning."

The PTZ dropdown made no difference. We seem to have gotten away from my original question, regardless of what the intended usage of the zoom is, I still want it to work...So I can fine tune it.

Thanks for you replies so far, I need to move on.

what do you have selected for the 'network ip' protocol in the 'PTZ/control' tab for the cam in BI?
try "ONFIV (OXML)" and/or the Axis-specific settings...

excuse me. didn't see where you said you'd tried ONVIF, which is usually the best bet as previously suggested by f'man

No problem thanks for replying. As a side note, I am not sure Axis is the brand I am going to stick with. I need 6 more cameras and would like something that works better with BI. 4k with audio preferably. Any thoughts?

To clarify works better: BI cant find the Onvif streams on this camera. I had to use another software.

it's all in the settings. just need to find what works.
Try adding the cam from scratch in BI and just let BI do the find/inspect thing without changing anything else...
that's a good cam (tho overpriced, imo), and BI is very good software...

other options for 4k/8mp with audio might include this Dahua dome:
IPC-HDBW5831E-ZE
US $1346.4 |DH Original IPC HDBW5831E ZE 8MP WDR IR Dome Network Camera 2.7mm 12mm Motorized Lens Memory SD Card IP67 IK10 PoE 50m ICR-in Surveillance Cameras from Security & Protection on Aliexpress.com | Alibaba Group
They also have a turret version, as most folks here would recommend against domes outdoors...

you can fine tune it from the cameras web interface. There is literally no need to have it working in BI.
