I have a Dahua IPC-HFW5442E-ZE aimed at my driveway, photo below. I am happy with the overall coverage but wish there were better images when zoomed. Also would love to be able to see license plates. what camera would you recommend to accomplish this or is this something that could be by changing some settings. would something that follows motion and auto zoom be better? Thanks

You need WAY more optical zoom. Digital zoom only works in the movies and TV.

You need to optical zoom in to where only the car is visible and not much more.

The camera will be a plate reader and not double duty also. At night we have to run fast 1/2,000 shutters and as such the image is black except for the plate.

The 5241-Z12E is the camera you need assuming it is the blue car. The white car could probably go with the 5442-Z4E, but it is the same price as the Z12E and only half the optical zoom of the Z12E, so go with more zoom.

If zoomed all the way out, it will be similar to this view, but then you won't read plates. It needs to be zoomed in tight where all you see is the car.

Like if it were the blue car, you would need to OPTICALLY zoom the camera to this field of view or tighter. Digital zoom after the fact won't work.
