BI PC Upgrade Time!

@looney2ns, (and all) thank you! This is super helpful! Sounds like the Optiplex SFF would be the easiest/fastest, and I just measured, and it will fit perfectly in my cabinet. What would be the specs for the machine that you all would say, "Jnuw, that's a bit overkill, but fine if you want to spend the money."? i.e., I'd like something fast and not to have to worry about it for 3-5 years. I'd be happy to add a primary SSD and/or giant second/external slow HD for storage. Thoughts? Thanks again!

Addition --> Would this be too much? I've been out of the game for so long that I have no idea what good hardware is these days. Thanks again!
That is not SFF, it's bigger.
At this stage of the game, as I suggested above I wouldn't purchase any computer with anything less than a i5-10500 cpu. Avoid any T designated processors.

Keep an eye out for Dell Refurbished sales; sometimes can score 40% off with 90 day warranty; pretty cool stuff - you score a good quality wired keyboard and mouse too.

I would recommend at least an 8th gen Intel processor (ie an iX-8XXX model number). This is because Microsoft has stated they won't support chipsets older than this in future Windows OS versions. Now time will tell if they hold to their guns and actually implement this, or if they back down due to the shear number of older computers still in use. But if you have to purchase something anyway, I would bite the bullet and make sure it is new enough to be supported moving forward. There is no need to buy an old processor just to run the risk of having to replace it relatively soon IMHO.

the PC in that link is a Optiplex 3040 SFF i7-6700 ( not what you want in term of windows 11 support)
Its just badly listed by screwball jack asses.
Everything in their "items for sale" is list as gawdamn Desktop PC...
these are the types of motherfuckers who will miss-ship an order because they think " they all look alike".
buy someplace where they specify the correct model # and USFF or SFF or Desktop...because their are differences.
like this one.

I will say that I have definitely seen a trend in the way these computers are listed on EBay. It use to be that sellers would list the CPU and other details either in the title of the listing, or at least in the description where it was easily seen. The trend now is to "hide" this information a much as possible to trick people into buying older computers. It's really disheartening to see IMHO. Of course not every seller does this, but the vast majority of high volume resellers are really trying to mask the actual specs of the computers they are selling now, especially the resellers that have "multiple purchase options" where they have drop down menus to choose the amount of RAM, storage, and other details about the computer during the checkout process. I'll occasionally look through listings and I'll see 2nd, 3rd, 4th gen Intel chips being sold off as "recent iX" chips in the description. I can totally understand where the average person would totally fall for their shady sales techniques.

Long story short, just be extra careful when browsing EBay and make sure you really understand what CPU you are purchasing.

Yeah they cant unload the hardware that falls short of W 11 specs very easily.
