Blue Iris help

Want to thank everyone who helped me on this. I finally got it after I read back on SouthernYankee's response about the LAN and WAN. I used the IP from my VPN for LAN then used that same IP for the WAN with :81. Now if I'm at home on my wifi I don't need the VPN to be active to log in from my Iphone. As soon as I switch to LTE it logs me out. As soon as I log in using my OpenVpn app then go back to blue iris I'm in on my cell network. Does this setup sound correct and secure?

As a side note I read that using VPN I won't get images in the push notifications. Has anyone seen a fix on this?
That is correct.
If you are away from home, on LTE, you will not get alert images UNLESS your VPN is connected.
It doesn't hurt a thing to leave it connected all the time.

I'm glad I stumbled across this and thanks for posting your fix for others. I was having the same problem as you and after doing this I was finally able to connect with my VPN using cellular data.

I have a similar setup as you using Iphone XR and built in OpenVPN on a netgear router.

Are you able to stay connected to you VPN/BI with you Iphone locked out? I get a great connection as long as my Iphone screen is open but as soon as my screen shuts off everything disconnects.

When I re-open the screen OpenVPN Connect starts reconnecting immediately but I still have to access BI and reconnect it manually.

I have battery saver turned off and have since added a passcode to my phone but still no luck.

I’m glad it helped. The people on this forum are very informative and I appreciate the help I got on here. This is so far a way better setup than a big box system. I’m ready to add my fourth camera, I’ll need to get a hold of Andy soon.

As far as how mine works my open vpn works until I disconnect it. I only need it to look at the alerts and at the live feed. I still get push notifications with open vpn off. My wife has an IPhone XR and I have a 6S and an iPhone 8 and they all three stay logged in until we hit disconnect.
