Blueiris NVR conundrum

If you don't mind me asking, what app are you using? Maybe the NVR app I was using is outdated and I need to try something new.
DMSS

We have a lot in common!

"For me, the #1 thing I wanted when I installed my CCTV system was "accurate" motion alerts when someone was approaching my property. This was a bit harder with my specific setup because my property is surrounded by 50 palm trees and a German Shepherd which made it rather complex to disregard false motion alarms, especially on windy days due to the shadows that would be cast on the ground and sway with the wind."

Similar for me except the trees are junipers and no German Shepherd. We're in the middle of a storm and I've had over 1,000 false IVS alerts in the last 24 hours. I do not use the human/vehicle filters which I assume would eliminate most of the false alerts. Even the S3 camera with the human/vehicle/animal filter enabled is throwing many false alerts. The only one than doesn't is the thermal camera. I found CPAI, for me, to be more trouble than it was worth. When IVS triggered on a frame that included my parked utility trailer, CPAI would pass it as a fire hydrant, the greenhouse as a vehicle, fence posts as people, and so forth. And on the frames with small animals, which I want, CPIA often saw nothing.

I skimmed through all the false alerts in about 15 minutes with UI3. Can't imagine how many hours it would be with the NVR.

Best of all worlds would the the NVR working with UI3, and all cameras thermal ($$$$$).

Other than using ancient old fashioned MD, I can’t even fathom how your get anywhere near that many false alerts? I can’t even force it to do that on purpose..?

I truly don’t recall the last “false alert” I got

I’d love to see that work. If you can skim through 1000 false alerts in 15 min, I may buy it.

You may have a network issue.
How are you connecting to the NVR from your phone? Local IP/wifi or P2P or VPN?

UI3 with the fast forward thumbnails. Can reject a false alert in 2 to 4 seconds, with no mouse clicking. I don't claim to have 100% accuracy, but darn close to it.

Cool if you have 1000 false alerts I guess. It determines that by? looking at the image and seeing nothing in it? :idk:

if you're getting that many false alerts from IVS you could use some tuning!

This thread got me to thinking, what do you BI guys consider a False Alert?

For me using an NVR and Dahua late model cameras:

1- Using old fashioned legacy MD, there are NO FALSE ALERTS, ZERO .... I have told the camera/NVR to alert me on EVERYTHING that moves. Thats what I get.
I think but havent tested, that IVS with NO filters would do the same?

2- Using AI/IVS, I filter for say Humans and Vehicles only. ANYTHING NOT a Human or Vehicle that produces an alert is essentially a False Alert
I use this method on 95% of my cameras and I truly am surprised when and if I EVER get a false alert
Bugs, Rain, Tree branch shadows, Sun, Lightning, Refrigerators, etc... I just dont get alerts from those. MAYBE 1-2 per MONTH from 25 cameras I watch each day

So how do you validate a "False Alert" with BI?

For me with an NVR, Two ways but essentially the same
1- I get an Alert in the App or Email or both (on some cameras I do set for both), with a snapshot.
The snapshot, in theory, shows me the culprit that caused the alert, right?

So here's a sample clip:

Lots of IVS (Human and Vehicle) on this camera today. Lets say 300
Using the NVR AI search filtering IVS events, I can visually see each thumb and see the culprit in the thumb that set off the alert.
But the last example alert I show, the snapshot doesnt show anything? False Alert? Nope
...Just a split second too slow to snap the photo on a far away IVS rule

And Using SmartPSS instead, I also see an Alert hash mark, so by playing that same clip, I see it was indeed a VALID alert.
The same holds true on the DMSS App and the NVR regular search timeline.

For me an IVS false alert is almost always caused by moving tree limbs or shadows. Occasionally, there's an IVS trigger that happens for no apparent reason, but they are infrequent enough that I just chalk it up to something random. I just tell it like it is with BI and NVR. NVR is easy to set up, rock-solid reliable, and a pain for viewing triggers. If I used the human/vehicle filters I expect most of the false alerts would go away, but a primary purpose of the system for me is to detect animals. BI is a pain in the rear to set up, and has a lot of needless to me complexity that I'm sure others relish. It shines for viewing triggers. For me its reliability has been less than rock solid, while others have had a difference experience. BI is my go-to choice for viewing triggers. For live viewing NVR+smartPSS works better.

The S3 camera is pretty good at not having false triggers when the wind isn't howling, but when the trees and bushes start dancing it sees a lot of nonexistent animals.

End result: Both sides are mad at me!

Not at all

I’m truly trying to narrow down what I believe are less than informed declarations about current NVRs AND at the same time trying to figure out, on universal features, how BI does it different/better.

On your IVS troubles, of course that’s a camera issue, the new S3s detect critters pretty reliably for me.
Of course having the camera properly configured for the scene can make all the difference. We gotta get you fixed up!

My VF 5442 S3s and Z4 5442 are VERY good capturing critters using IVS with the critter filter. Possum, cats, coons, bunnies I get hits for most every night.

Even very small ones.....

Communication mixup. My S3 detects animals very reliably, and when the wind isn't blowing the false alert rate is acceptably low. I'm complaining about the false alerts when the wind is blowing and it sees bushes and tree branches as animals.
