Thanks for all the info, Chris. New BI user here and I'm planning a budget build myself with similar requirements to yours. The HP6300 you found looks like a good deal, so I ordered one myself. :)

Hope my build turns out as well as yours!

I purchased an Intel Core i5-3570 @ 3.40GHz 8GB 500GB HDD Windows 7 Pro for $145. I am planning to have around 5 3MP cameras with 30fps. Do you guys think this machine can handle that?

should do fine
you should also drop 30fps to a lower # you dont need 30fps
just make sure hardware acceleration is turn on *you might have a harder time doing this with windows 7 in service mode*
must also do it on each camera
and direct-to-disc enabled
