Buying a used Dahua NVR - yes or no?

Another question. I'm sure I can find it if I look, but I'm too lazy at the moment. Does anyone know off hand the maximum size hard drives? I presume 2 X 10GB, but that would be reckless on my part

Correct it’s on the spec sheet

Is there a full manual for the NVR5216-16P-4KS2E in PDF format that can be downloaded? Under the product's documents tab, it seems to be broken down into separate sections. While this is convenient, I would like to have it all in one document, as the webpage for this model at some point will go away. I can't fathom the thought of downloading and saving all sections to my computer, and very few of the sections download as PDF files. You must download as a MS Word file, then print as a PDF document - at least on my end. Not looking forward all that work.

Its a general Manual for many variants. Good luck.

I’ve been using a secondhand NVR5416-4KS2(V2.0) for over a year now. When I received it I did a full default etc to make it my own. I fitted 4 new 6tb WD purple drives and it’s been rock solid. Just recently I decided to update the firmware to V4.001.0000006.1.R.210709 as I wanted the MP4 playback/download capability. Bigredfish have you found any issues/bugs with the V4.002.00000007.R.240717 firmware? I noticed the latest is V4.002.0000000.8.R.241030

So far no problems on four 5216-16P-4KS2E's . I'm guessing that 241030 FW is Andy's just to remove Dahua logo/branding?

Dunno haven’t tried it. :idk:

Ahh no PoE

I could be wrong but I believe it’s all the same firmware. There are no release notes that I can find for firmwares after DH_NVR5XXX-4KS2_MultiLang_V4.002.0000000.6.R.221115 …. But up to and including this firmware they are all the same. I believe the E on the end of 4KS2 is just to state it’s a POE device.

You're probably right.

The 240717 was released right after they discovered the bug on older Dahua equipment and shut down some older European P2P servers and suddenly stopped support for SmartPSS
Pretty sure it had to do with how P2P credentials were sent by the NVR and SmartPSS. At the same time Amazon forced them to send their push messages through an intermediate AWS server vs straight to a Dahaus server on AWS.

As the NVR itself does the push, and SmartPSS was using the same technology, this leads me to be believe that some older Dahua code was leaking Serial #s. I can't be sure but it all happened at the same time in July Aug 2024

I'm just looking for something to familiarize myself with the settings, layout and setup that I can refer to quickly in print. The fact that time marches on and nothing on the internet is safe from disappearing, it's nice to have a local copy for troubleshooting.

I did locate a manual. As above. Hopefully it's okay for you.
