Not that it maters a hole lot, but I've noticed that there seems to be some degree of continuity in the use of cable colors vs application. Are there standards involved or is it just my imagination. I see suppliers have a lot of cables with a lot of colors and the colors don't seem to have anything to do with size. I'm new to this so I'm just trying to get my arms around this.

electricity is color blind, use whatever you want.. I got blue, because blue is what I was given.. dont really care.

if you want to color code your patch cables, go for it.. it makes it easy to trace and work, plus it looks nice.. colors? whatever you want.. could do like:

Switch to Switch/Router
Switch to Servers
Switch to IP Cameras
Switch to Access Points
Switch to Workstations/Computers

I like rainbows. Match the color on one end where it plugs in on the other and you don't have to label. This generally only works with smaller installations though.
