How can i block someones camera from viewing?
Like will a light shining at it stop it?
Another IR directed at it?
Anything i can do without damaging it?
 
If it's not yours and not illegal in your area then don't interfere with it. If they're doing something wrong then call the cops. If YOU are doing something wrong then face the consequences.

Well apparently police said its ok for 2 cameras to look into my bedroom and shower!!!! Because they have privacy masks on. Its BS because they can remove them at any time and see us in the shower or on my bed!
So this is why i want to know how to block the camera with an instrument and not pay 1000s to put a higher f#$ing fence!!
 
A spotlight pointed directly at the camera from your window (or just next to it) could help wash out the area, but exposure tweaks could defeat it if someone was intent on snooping.

Your best bet is to obscure the view through the window. There are a number of ways to do this.

1) Use curtains.
2) Replace the window with privacy glass.
3) Apply an inexpensive privacy film (frosted-style, not just one-way-mirror film as mirror film won't work when it is night with your indoor lights on).

You could even get motorized curtains or electronic switchable privacy film that switches from frosted to clear electronically, though either of these options will raise your cost into the hundreds of dollars.

Unfortunately frosted glass will take away our whole design of our room as it looks out to a waterfall etc.
We already have blinds but again cant open them up unless we are again seen by the cameras. :(

Outside spot light with two 75 or 100 watt spot lights pointed at them , they wont be able to see anything and your waterfall view will be better. Much like car lights at a camera their IR will shut off and blind the camera. They will eventually prefer not to have camera on you and in trade you turn off your night lights.
 
technically, a laser pointer aimed at the cam will do the trick.
AC-powered might be easier to install in a fixed location and enable with a flip of a switch when you want to assure privacy.

but practically, that really only escalates whatever tensions exist between you and your neighbors...

I gotcha. You don't trust them and it takes away from the enjoyment of your property. Well, some high powered accent lighting illuminating your waterfall might add to the enjoyment of your valuable landscaping. Perhaps lights strategically placed along the midline of your house with emphasis placed near the windows might help, at least in the dark.

The one thing it won't help with is interpersonal relations. Light pollution can interfere with their enjoyment of property. Then you add a 20x PTZ. Then they add a 30x PTZ. Cops come. Lawyers make money. Somebody adds a Mosquito anti loitering system just for giggles to see who breaks first. Maybe a litre of capsaicin gets dumped in someone's hot tub. You get the picture.

You never know. Their cameras might catch some jerk burgling your house.
 
As long as it's not a 30x dome cam I wouldn't worry about it. :) Personally I like to put down blinds at night anywhere where I think someone could easily see inside with or without camera. I am pretty sure people who would want to spy on anyone they would try to do it without putting cams that are obvious or visible.

BTW do you know what brand/type of cam they are using?
 
pen-style 'laser-pointer' power (< 1 mW) will do no damage.

They are using 3mp Hills Cameras. Which i think are just rebranded Duhua cameras.

What is the distance between the camera and your windows? most bullet and dome cameras have shorter wider lenses, the default on the Hills 3mp bullet is 4mm. At 50' (15.24m) there isn't much detail, the farther the camera the less detail there is. While the camera might be pointed at your windows they might not be able to actually see anything of you with them.
 
Hire a 400 pound guy to do some toe touches in a speedo with rear facing window. The interest will wain.

1 camera is 5 meters the other is about 7 meters away
 
Yeah, that's pretty close... that would probably bug me too.
 
How about if you ask them to connect the cams to YOUR NVR or BI.
that way YOU control the privacy mask and make the masked video available to them for their security needs.
They might not go for it, but it could be an equitable way to work it out.
less escalation-y than lasers... :-)
