I've just purchased a Dahua SD1A203T-GN (PTZ) from Andy (thanks!) and I'm going to place it on the side of the house.

However, I don't feel too comfortable climbing a ladder really high (ie. the soffit) so what are your opinions on mounting it to the side of the house where I placed the 'X' ? (or maybe a little higher)

I'm also wondering how the camera will look ugly and stick out like a sore thumb.

Thanks for any advice!

Yeah, that would work there, but that tree on the side will block most of the view looking towards the front.

You can paint it to match the siding.

I have that same cam but use it indoors. Not sure why you got that cam for that position. Lower mounting is better than that soffit height that you have. Before you run cable and mount it, use a test rig to see what you are going to get for a view.

If the cam's view is intended to be toward whomever snapped that picture, I'd consider mounting it under the soffit or at the top of the middle support post, in blue outline and X's.
