Camera problem

A few weeks ago I put a new camera up in my garden and the connector plug inside trunking. I didn’t put the connector protector on because it was inside trunking, it got wet and burnt the connector after a storm. I’ve just put a keystone Jack on the cable and the camera outside light comes on like it’s going to work but it’s not being picked up. It says no automatic configuration made when I search for it, is the camera fried? It’s just strange how the light comes on like normal, thanks.

If you're sure you have it wired correctly then what about corrosion to the male RJ-45 that plugs into that keystone jack?
Have you tried cleaning it with some De-Oxit?

Have you tried cleaning it with some De-a brand new cable and plugged it in with that, the camera light comes on and goes off like it does when it’s working properly. But when I try and log into the camera it can’t find it.

I’ve used a brand new cable to test it with not the old one, the old male connector is burnt too. It’s strange how the outside light it comes on and then goes off, it’s like it’s going to work, that’s what it does. But when I try and log into the camera at Hikvison the page just keeps loading it’s not finding it.

Ive just checked the wires in the Jack and one has come out, Ive plugged it with a powered plug too and it still won’t pick it up though.

Not that strange. There are separate circuits/boards for the power and network sides. Because it gets power and lights up doesn't mean that the network side is working properly. Could be corrupted in some way or just fried. I've had a couple die that would still power up but were non-responsive otherwise, or stuck in a boot loop, etc.

I’m starting to think I should just bin it. It just got my hopes up when the light came on, I thought omg it’s fixed, it’s obviously done more damage than I can see. Lesson learned, my previous cctv fitter told me he doesn’t bother putting the water protectors on, that’s an expensive lesson on my behalf and one I won’t do again, I’m going to fix my facia board too, that’s what’s caused it.

The water has ran down the back of the facia board and down into the plastic trunking that my Ethernet cable was in. I’m just wondering as a last option before I bin it could I reset the camera? Would that do anything.

What I should have done is cut a channel out of the wooden board under the facia. I’ve tried to force the wire under the plastic facia and it’s pushed it out just enough to let abit of water in, only a few drops but enough to fry my camera.

Try it. Nothing to lose.

Best way to do it when you put it back up is to put a glob of dielectric grease on and inside the RJ-45 connector. Then wrap it with Coax-Seal or some other self-fusing tape. Then a wrap with Scotch 33 on top of that.

Thanks, that sounds like a great idea, I’ll use the Ethernet protector too, if I had used that in the first place it would still be fine now, lesson learnt.

I’ve just bought a brand new camera, he said it’s been opened to be tested and it’s fine, it looks brand new with all the stickers still on etc. He’s sent the IP address and password but it’s not finding the camera when I search for it in my browser and when I add it to Blue Iris I’m getting error 8000274c, thanks

What camera? It's likely reset back to whatever the default IP address is for that cam.
The new camera I bought, I reset because I couldn’t log into to it and now I’ve lost all my cameras, all my cameras are showing 8000274c fault, I’m having a nightmare here. None of my cameras are being found now.

Usually when I buy a new camera I can just log into Hikvision with my browser. But this one it wouldn’t load up at all. So I reset it and sorted some tangled wiring up near router and I’ve lost everything now, all the ones that were on have gone off too.

Does that look right, I’ve got 4 cables for the cameras in the Poe. The yellow cable from the router to the Poe box. And the cable from my computer going into the router?, I’m sure that’s fine, why have I lost everything I wonder.

Again, which model camera? Is it an Hikvision cam? If so, then the default IP address usually is 192.168.1.64. Your IP for your computer will need to be in that same 192.168.1.x address range in order to see the cam. You can change it temporarily, change the cam IP to what you want, change the computer IP back.

ETA: Just to simplify things, plug your computer into the POE switch.
