Getting the hang of it

Hello,
I am in the process of building a barn and bringing horses home. They will be across the street and I want to make sure we have cameras around the farm, in the paddocks, and in the stalls. I was just looking for some suggestions for the latest technology cameras that would be recommended. I was checking out the IPC-HDW3849H-AS-PV-PRO, but I haven't seen much about it on here. I will have cameras near gates/entrances as well. I don't need anything super high end, but I do want the latest technology. Any recommendations would be super helpful.

The cam you are looking at is not ideal.
See this for suggestions.

it sounds like IPC-B52IR-Z12E is the one?
Not sure you're going to need the zoom that model has (I wouldn't start with that one).

The IPC-T54IR-AS-S3 or IPC-T54IR-ZE-S3 would be good models to start with.

The first choices you need to make are more related to network topology and connectivity than the exact camera models. Assuming power in the barn, how do you plan to network between the barn and house? Options include point to point wifi with dedicated long range outdoor wifi, running conduit and fiber optic cable or ethernet, or HomePlug powerline networking adapters which are a bit less reliable than some of the other options but can be convenient. How many cameras in / around the barn? Will you need to install a PoE switch in the barn or near the gate (probably / possibly)? How far is it between the places you want cameras? What's the terrain/foliage like?

You mention "across the street", does that mean across a private drive or across a public road?

Why use a blue and red flashing camera with siren at a horse stalls, will scare the animals. Just use a normal IR camera is fine.

Regarding the Dahua IPC-HDW3849H-AS-PV-PRO model you’re interested in, there is a series of cameras in this category.
BTW, what is that "category" ?

Yea good question...I will have power and network to the barns. I am paying for an additional internet connection at the location. I'll have everything i need for POE. I plan on having one camera in each stall, and probably 4 or 5 around paddocks/pasture areas. In total there will be 6-7 cameras.

yeah, best one for that money. And can detect animals well.

You'd be better off figuring out a way to connect the barn to your local network at the house if possible. If you answer more of my questions we could probably figure out what's possible. How far is is from the barn to the house? Do you have line of sight?

I do not have line of site unfortunately. It's not actually across the road, it's more diagonal from my house. If you think there is a realistic way def let me know.

Assuming power in the barn - Yes power will be done in 3/4 weeks
Options include point to point wifi with dedicated long range outdoor wifi - I don't believe this is doable, there is a bit of a hill between my house and my land
Running conduit and fiber optic cable or ethernet - This is not possible either, because there is a town maintained paved road in between...it is a dead end, but still not realistic
How many cameras in / around the barn - I'll have a total of 6 or 7 cameras....two in stalls, and the other 4/5 will be spread around paddocks/pasture via underground cat6/POE
Will you need to install a PoE switch in the barn or near the gate (probably / possibly) - Yes, I have all my networking gear already including a 16 port POE switch
How far is it between the places you want cameras? What's the terrain/foliage like? - see photo attached....unfortunately it's a bit of a hill from my house to the top of sunrise lane, and then starts going down on my new land. My new land is very wooded as you can see....we are clearing but it's all towards the bottom of the land near the field, the top with stay wooded.

If you end up having to rely on a ISP to connect to the barn, you should plan to put an NVR in the the barn if you want to record the cameras.

You should experiment a little with point to point wifi and see what you can make work.
You may not be able to just mount something to the house and barn and make it work, but there's probably a way to make it work. That could involve bouncing signals off a tower or friend's house that's a bit higher in elevation, small tower(s) of some type on your property and possibly some trenching.

I added some examples of the type of thing I'm describing to your image (can't tell the terrain). I'd start by playing with this tool a bit (click on the nodes of your proposed network to reveal additional settings, PtMPT can generate a bit of a heat map, be sure to adjust the height of each node): UISP Design Center
