West Seattle Blog video of incident in Arbor Heights from early August 9th. At about 2:20, the car's owner wrestles the thief away from the car.

I like how all the neighbors came out AFTER he scared him away!

But like WTF if you got him at that point, knock/wrestle him to ground and don't let him get away.

If you park on the street I recommend getting significantly better cameras ..

2nd thief now turns around to help 1st ..










Looks like a pistol has been drawn by thief ..




2nd thief in no longer in sight .. owner bare footed running towards car now ..















.. and now the neighbors show up ..

He didn't have any self defense skills.
I suspect there was loud hollering from the car owner as he approached, and that's why everyone came out at that point.

Fine example, you live in a commie state, and all you can have to defend yourself is a sharp stick, like the neighbor had.

If the neighbor had used that sharp stick on the perp he'd have been charged with assault of one form or another.

The owner was kind of dumb. Hollering, which I guess he did, actually warned the perp of his approach. Best to come up quietly and stomp one or both calves with no warning. That would disable the perp pretty quickly and put him under your control immediately.

But stomping on his calves would be "assault" too....right?

Probably, but no "instrument of violence" used. Waiting for the perp to get out from under the car and confronting face to face is not always the best choice. Weighing the risks, I'd opt for the calve stomp method followed up with a basic hammer lock as he comes out from under the car.
