I've yet to see the check firmware function work on ANY Dahua camera...

it worked before, it would say "this is the latest firmware". heck, even my 5208 says that and i know there's a newer firmware version out, I just haven't loaded it, because with my luck everything will stop working and i'll have to climb on the roof and factory reset the cameras and the nvr all over again. we shouldn't have to relyon andy for firmware updates. the check for firmware function in the cams and nvr should work properly. i've pretty much given up with dahua, i had someone help me and they spent hours on my setup. i basically threw in the towel. sick of having to adjust these cams every night. my 5241 goes out of focus all the time, and randomly changes it's focus in the middle of the night. theres no good explanation about camera features, settings, user manuals, functions in good english. anyone that has interest in these cams needs to read this fourm like i have for YEARS and even then there are going to be a million questions about this stuff. hats off to the people that have chimed in and helped, this will always be frustrating. like getting in your car and one day it doesnt start, the next day the power seat leaned back on it's own, you lose all your radio station presets, the wipers only work on fast. the ac blower motor stops working but works again the next day. seriously what it feels like.

Your car does that too? I thought it was just me

Did you check out Scotty Kilmer’s new YouTube channel?

i'll check it out after the storm, going to see if any cams survive the 22 lightning strikes per minute. maybe i'll lose a few and can claim insurance HA. ever watch AvE youtube channel? applied science? astrum? good stuff. to keep this post on track, anyone have a solution to the firmware upgrade? or do we just keep bugging andy? on another note, I still can't get a license plate at night, i have to wait for 50 cars to go by and then the next night i start all over again. , seems every day it loses focus, i've tried the schedule and change 45 mins before/after sunset trick. one day it works on 1.500, the next it takes 1/1000. same pitch black conditions, same sky, etc. it's a 5241. i've searched and tried everyones settings on the forum. i even chanaged the angle which helped greatly but dont understand why the settings need to change every other night. man what a storm here.

I watched several of AvE's videos before, he really dissects the product good :p

As far as firmware goes, you should message Andy for a firmware update. Never bother clicking on auto-check for firmware update. The firmware that Andy provides is generally newer than what Dahua publishes on their website. Andy works internally with Dahua engineers to ensure our feedback gets across the product and software developers. These are genuine Dahua cameras just without Dahua's 5-year warranty support. Internal lines of code prevent the firmware from actually updating through Dahua's servers. I'm sure by purchasing a Dahua model from an authorized Dahua seller in the United States will enable you to auto-check for firmware updates but never really provide the latest update, regardless.

Also, as per @bigredfish if it ain't broken, don't touch it.

22 strikes per minute!!!! Pffffttt amateur. Ha, We had a line move through here last night that was producing 89,415 per hour or 1490 per minute. ;)

cameras still work, never lost power, however, a bug crawled across the lens of my 5241 and it went out of focus (imagine that) how come these cams dont stay in focus when you manually set the focus?

also my 5442 looks purple right now , never seen this before.

You have a stuck IR filter. I suggest you toggle between Black & White, Auto, Color several times. That should fix it. I'm surprised there's a good number of units (not necessarily limited to this model) that have the same intermittent issue.

this is going to be one of those all over the place posts. i have the new firmware for the 5208 nvr, and i'm reading conflicting info. do i upload the new firmware and reboot, or do i needto factory reset the nvr after uploading the firmware, which would require factory resetting the cams first, so that when i plug each one it, it will recognize it and pull it to the bottom line? we all remember how much of a pain in the arse that was. i still have cams showing weird names in different ports, even the unused ones. not sure how to clear that out. and same for the 5241, there is new firmware for that, upload firmware to the cam and hard reset the cam? seems like a lot just for new firmware. my 5442 still has a purple image, it gets better/worse depending on the amount of light peeking thru the clouds.

Ive always uploaded the new firmware then done the factory reset.. Then REBOOT

nothing is ever easy. i found new firmware for my N22AL12 camera, downloaded it, tried to install it, it froze for a minute then came back online. i manually rebooteditand checked the firmware version and it didn't take. i'm confused on firmware links in andys forum vs dahua wiki ones, the dahua wiki site shows all usa camera part numbers.
