Considering LPR

Baby Evangeline Liberty is here now, so I can get on with the important task of surveillance My wife thinks I'm wasting my time.

Tonight I took a square out and marked in pencil where the shadow of my front lights falls. My cameras just barely stick out into the lighted area, and they need to be tucked into the shadow so there's no glare.

My cop neighbor came home for lunch and asked how baby was doing and how my security camera system is going. There's no way crime will be tolerated here. I told him about my LPR ambitions. Hopefully I can figure it out.









My 4x zoom camera should arrive tomorrow according to UPS, and I've marked out where the light interferes with the cameras, so I should have better placement and zoom soon.

Place has too low light in the night. Can add a external IR light will improve a lot on the pic quality for the turret IPC-T5442T-ZE
Did a quick IR test tonight with 3 different IR illuminators | IP Cam Talk
Bullet Z4E have stronger IR, so can be better.

It's low quality because the house lights are shining into the camera. That's what I went out to address, to see where I would need to move the cameras to in order for them to be in the "shade" of the house. Normally I do not have the house lights on, so image quality is better.

I've had limited time to tweak things, but here's what I've got so far with the 32mm cam I received from Andy yesterday. Zoom is at max, and camera is angled as far left as I can go before trees obscure the view.

Some plates show up pretty clear


Others not so much. Seems obvious I need more directed IR illumination.


I actually struggled to get decent images in daytime more than at night due to blurring. I decreased shutter to limit blurring.


Here's my config at the moment. More tweaking needed obviously.

I'd say you need an auxiliary IR illuminator to brighten up that night shot.

If the speed is lower than most of us (which it looks like it might be), you might be able to get away with a 1/1000 shutter and that will help let more light in.
