Dahua 5232-16p-EI

well I'm pretty sure it resolved it because I didn't see it come back while I was onsite the next few days after. Haven't been back there in a couple weeks so don't know if its back. Can ask owner to check, but I don't know if we will be able to check in bright daylight as he is always working. Not sure if issue happened at night or not. never stayed on site that long lol. I can remote in from here though.

Thanks appreciate it.

So Im guessing by reducing the load a little via h.265 (across X number of channels) it was enough to sneak under whatever restriction there is on HDMI output.
Remember @Timokreon said there were no issues with viewing via the NVR itself, so it seems to be primarily an HDMI Out thing...

If you HAVE to put sub streams on 265 and main on 264, something is definitely wrong with the firmware.
I already switched everything back to the 4ks2e, so at this point not going to switch it all back. It doesn't take a HUGE amount of time, but to me that isn't a fix, that's a band aid.

As for the lottery, I already asked Andy to make sure to remove that lottery number. I would feel terrible if that number won. Plus, I wouldn't have kept the prize... I'm way too honest for that to happen. I wouldn't be able to sleep knowing that.

Well hopefully it’s a fix, because I’m installing another one next week on new job. Just to document this I came back a week later(Aug 25) and found another camera doing it.

changed the settings (must have missed one)
Came back Aug 31 and was still ok.

Sorry Timokreon, just tease you a little because of your post in 2023 Autumn Sales thread. :)

We will probably hear more users complaint about the picture scramble problem with this model of the NVR in the future if dudemaar's solution is not a permanent fix for others.

Yeah, figured, but I don't want anyone to think I'd do something like that. Never has been my style, never will be.
I feel bad enough sending a unit back to Andy that might be fixed with a firmware update down the road.

I'm just not the person for testing like that, at least when it comes to things like this.

That's kind of strange solution to fix the problem since we are always told not to use H265 most of the time. But maybe Timokreon can try his luck with sub stream to h265 on each camera via web GUI like you did and see what happen. Nothing to lose at this point.:thumb:

H.265 quality problems are thing of past.
Today modern cameras have the same video quality on H.264 and H.265 (I don't see any difference like in past models).
And in Dahua world (NVR, apps) H.265 don't create any problems.
Also Dahua promotes H.265 very much (default H.265 on cameras, auto switch to H.265 in NVR's etc)...
Maybe in World of BlueIris (which is very popular here) there are some problems with H.265

SmartCodec is a different animal - in case of lack of human/car movement in scene it delays full I-frames to 8 seconds (or even more). If you start play any stream You must wait to first full I-frame to display the video - so You wait much longer.

So leaving default settings at H265 won’t make a difference compared to H264? I’m currently pre setting up a 8ch nvr with 5 x t2431t budget cams. What would be the best setup under encode? All Default ? It’s usually what Andy tells me. Thanks in advance.

Surely you run a higher bitrate than 2048 on 4MP cams?
8192 min for me.....

Ive not had any great experience with h.265 but Im not running the new EI NVRs either. Mostly 5216-16P-4KS2E

yes I normally run highest bit rate available and with this camera it seems to be same 6144 bit rate for both 264 and 265. The NVR is Model: NV41AI Item name: NV4108P-4KL-S3

And do you run highest bit rate available on sub stream aswell?

Typically 8192 main stream on 4MP and 1024 on substream

Substream is used for my phone as well as SmartPSS running all day on a monitor next to me so running high bitrate produces dropouts and sometimes just wont stream. Depends on how many cameras you're viewing simultaneous
