Dahua camera reset proceedure.

IMPORTANT: For organizational purposes, this original post will include the first two replies - 1) Intro and Dahua Wiki link, 2) specific to IPC-HDW5231R-Z, and 3) specific to IPC_HDW4231EM-AS.

Sometimes it is necessary to reset camera back to factory spec which is the factory default. Examples include lost password or forgot what changed the IP to from the default 198.168.1.108 to start over. After the experience actually finding the UNLABELED reset switch on the 4231EM-AS, decided to create this.

First is the Dahua Wiki. It is a good resource in that it gives instructions, however, the cameras are not included and the photos quite blurry. Instead of 5 seconds, I went 20 seconds per other discussions on this forum. There is no indicator light like on some cameras referenced in the instructions.

This one is very easy compared to the other camera. Also, the physical appearance of the switch is identical on both models, and they press sideways rather than down into the circuit board.
Open camera by removing all 3 screws.
First image is an overview. Wooden stick points to the reset switch.

I actually searched with a flashlight inspecting each component and couldn't find it. Of course, I was looking for a button that pushed down rather than sideways.

First photo is the initial disassembly removing the 3 screws. If you are really good, potentially could press the button sideways with a non-conductive instrument. Technically, it is on the underside of the circuit board, that grayish speck barely sticking out.

Second photo removes the additional two screws on the metal plate and flipping the circuit board to see the underside which provides far better access to the switch.

Anyone know the correct hard reset procedure?

Should the button be held down before applying power, or while it is powered on?
From searching I've seen mixed answers on other cams.

One way to find out.

Dahua says just hold the button: ResetIPCamera - Dahua Wiki

If memory serves the prevailing wisdom here was to hold the button while power is applied and for at least 5-10 seconds. It may ultimately do the same exact thing either way.

also remember there are some cameras without the reset switch soldered in at all and you have to short between the correct pins. There are pictures and instructions in another thread.

I think I read somewhere that you'd finally got around to hard resetting your PTZ. Was it difficult to continue to make contact with the reset button while the camera booted up (lens spinning)?

I don't have this camera, but I feel like it's a pretty safe assumption that the reset would prevent the initialization that makes the PTZ move from happening.

It never moved during reset.

Thanks Tizeye for your helpful photos. I initially assumed my ipc-hdw4231em-ase would have the same button that you depicted, but ended up finding it in a different spot. The button on the ipc-hdw4231em-ase actually is a push-button, not a slider; and can be accessed easily without unscrewing the circuit board. Check out the photos to compare.

After holding the button down for 5 seconds, the reset was evident by a green LED shutting itself off on the opposite side of the circuit board.

I have a Dahua SD-49225TN-HN PTZ which decided it didn't like my password I had been using succesfully for over 6 months and I never changed it.
It's percariously mounte abot 25' up so the "motherboard" reset switch I don't consider accessable.
I'm using BI and SmartPSS with no problems, but attempting to log on with my browser I get the "wrong password" response.

Any help on how to reset the password?

Do you have UPnP or port forwarding to the camera enabled? The camera getting hacked is the most likely scenario.

If something else is logged in, you may find yourself locked out. Close Blue Iris and anything else that connects to the camera, reboot the camera and attempt to connect to it right after it boots up.

Some people have had problems with this model, but those have never manifested as a password error.

The only other way to attempt a password reset would be to tftp the firmware image onto the camera which isn't without some risk if something goes wrong.

I tried multiple resets. But the camera goes to 192.168.1.108 according configtool. But my new ASUS router uses 192.168.50.1 as its own IP . The DHCP function does not work with the camera. Also when i try to modify IP i see an error message password error if i click the exclamation mark. Is there a way to reset the password? i havent used this camera for a long time. I thought with a reset the password would also reset.
