Dahua DVr remote login

I am trying to setup remote login for my dahua DVr ( also have a nvr) . I forwarded the ports and can get remotely to the login page but my login won't work remotely. Only when I login locally on site. Yes I have the correct password .
What is lan login or wan login that is an option on the login page ?

"LAN" is when you are on your own network (at home) same as the NVR, "WAN" is when you are NOT at home on your LAN (remote).
@looney2ns is giving you a great tip, BTW.

I know what the terms mean and I understand the issues with forwarding ports ( I am a network engineer ) I meant what is dahua using it for ? Once I forward the ports and and Nat my wan to my lan the device shouldn't care how I am connecting. It won't take my password when I am not on site

Ah but it does. By design.
It knows about the source address.
That restriction adds a little bit of extra security.
