DAHUA NVR REPLACEMENT

Hello I have a DAHUA NVR 5216-16P-4KS2 which I bought from Andy back in 2018. It has become unreliable during the last few months with multiple problems, crashes, and having to wait forever to select items and failures to record being just a few!

So I want to purchase a new up to date unit. I believe it was the top spec at the time. But the path to choose a new model is not clear as this model is still on sale I think. How can this be when the cameras are more megapixel and make more and more demands of the NVR. Or has this model been updated with faster electronics but then surely the model number would have changed.

I use all 16 channels all with POE so what I’m asking is what Dahua NVR should I buy now which ideally has a bit of future proofing in it?

I am running the 5216 presently but due to its limited bandwidth, my 8MP cameras have exceeded its ability. Below is what I have on order with Andy to upgrade what I have now.

NVR608H-32-XI (Network Ports: 2 (10/100/1000/2500 Mbps Ethernet port, RJ-45))
PFS4226-24ET-240 (Port 25-26: 2 × RJ-45 10 M/100 M/1000 M) and (Uplink Port 25-26: 2 × SFP 1000 M uplink combo)
EmpireTech 10-Port Unmanaged Switch with 8-Port ePoE (Port 9: 1 × RJ-45 10/100/1000 Mbps; Port 10: 1 × SFP 1000 Mbps)

What exact cameras are you using with that NVR?
Any 8mp cams?

I think people( myself included) have discovered something about the conditions you are reporting.
I noticed as I added more cams the response time was increasing....and sometimes failing to login or change a menu setting...but this was more with the Clicking the blue 1693504266211.png to get to the GUI's...
when i started digging, I saw some posts about not running the POE NVR to its capacity on Ports, or if doing so, some cameras had to be cut way back on FPS and biterate....
So took a few cams off the POE NVR and went direct to a POE switch and this cleared things up for lag.
my NVR( AMcrest 4108/Dahua OEM) has only 80 Mbps speed on the Ethernet port. ( Wan port)

Wow, so there ARE more capable devices from Dahua....I hadn't dove deep into anything beyond consumer grade stuff,,,but that NVR608H has some impressive features.

Also how are you accessing the NVR? Via a web browser on your local LAN?
Have you tried to access directly at the NVR via mouse and monitor? Could part of the problem be your LAN bandwidth?
Have you added cameras since it was running well?
What bitrate are you running on those 16 cameras?
Is your NVR exposed to the Internet via Port Forwarding?

Probably theres a reason behind the problems, Id make sure before investing in upgraded equipment.

Hi this is great just what Ive been looking for. However read further down my replies and I’m thinking - it might be cheaper and easier as well as more reliable to just use a PC with blue Iris?

No very little if any 8mp cams, just 3 SD52C225U-HNI PTZ units which I got first and am still pleased with their performance today, + then just a mixture of units eBayed as and when found. See piccyIMG_5264.jpeg
