dahua nvr will not accept external login

I did not change my nvr password, yet cannot login externally. I can login successfully while on the LAN. To test things out, I made a 2nd admin account and also a user account. All of which get the, "Login Failed" message. What would cause this? How can I fix this? Thanks for any assistance.
 
how would i go about confirming it was not compromised? i can use a DNS service, but current settings are port fwd enabled.
