Dahua NVR5216-4KS

Reset the cams to factory defaults, reset the NVR to factory Defaults.
Power up NVR, plug ONE camera into Ch1 of the NVR...wait until you see a picture on the screen, can take as long as 5 minutes, then plug in the next cam into ch2, rinse and repeat.

If you are using an NVR with PoE and you want to have your cameras in a certain sequence, Make sure you label your cables and plug them into the NVR in the sequence that you want. If you didn't label your wires, use a separate PoE switch on the initial set up to determine which cable goes to each camera. Then label the cameras. Plug them in one by one like @looney2ns says. The issue with these NVRs is, the switch will remember the camera and revert back to the original sequence, which will drive you nuts.

May I humbly suggest following the pragmatic simple instructions of Looney and doing this before the Web Interface.

My NVR does not have POE. I have it plugged directly into my Edge Router as previously suggested, and then my cams all plugged into my POE switch. If I were to do a factory reset on the NVR wouldn't I lose my work in regards to me changing the ip address to the proper subnet?

This is a whole lot easier if you have a monitor or a tv plugged into the nvr. You only need it for the initial setup, then you can do everything remotely. Take a tv off the wall or get an hdmi cable long enough to reach a tv.

Yeah I think that is what I am going to do. Is there a general suggestion/tutorial on recording schedule? I think I have it setup to record 24/7 on all cameras but would like to see where the events happen. I would assume this is pretty general setup, but I have yet to find a tutorial of some sort on recording schedule.

Oh yeah connecting the TV to the NVR is making the setup much easier than using the Web GUI. So my next question is on setting up a recording schedule. Right now my cameras are recording 24/7 with no motion detection. I am assuming that I would want motion detection turned on, but I am not sure what a typically recording schedule at a residence would look like. If anyone has some suggestions I am all ears.

Well the nvr that I have does not have multiple Ethernet ports like a poe nvr. That is why I have the poe switch in my setup. I have the 4 Dahua IPC-HDW5231R-ZE Turret Cameras. I love them, I am just trying to figure out how to setup the recording schedule. It looks like to me I have them recording 24/7 with no Motion Detection. I would like to be able to go back and see when there was motion and I can get to that segment quickly.

I know I set up the recording to what suits my needs, but I am lost as to how someone would want this to typically record at a residence.

We can't guess for you, but what did work for me: I do 24/7 recording from my cams on my NVR disk. However, I instituted IVS rules (with trip wires, boxes etc) which trigger both push messages ànd recordings. So in the end, I still have the 24/7 recordings, however in my timeline (in playback mode), I've got nice orange bars coming up, so I can immediately spot IVS rule anomalies. Having the 24/7 recording helps to go like 2-3 minutes back in time before the IVS rule brook. In NVR and cam you can set 30 sec "prerecord", but that is often not enough, certainly if you work with "special" tripwires to exclude moving trees etc.

Hope this helps!

I guess it depends on what cameras you have. I am going to assume that your model cameras did not come with IVS built in. If not, I would record continuously and motion at the same time. You will need to go into each camera, through the recorder, and enable motion detection. Then set up your regions for motion detection. Mask out any trees or stuff that moves all the time like a road with constant traffic. You will also need to play with the sensitivity so that you don't get every spec of dust that floats by. When you are recording motion, expect more movement when its raining or your sprinklers are going, or a spider is building a web around your camera all night, etc.. Changing the cameras to ones that have IVS built in will greatly increase the accuracy of detecting a person. If this is an option for you, make sure that your recorder supports IVS functions. These will be present in the Event tab where motion detection is configured.

I have a HDBW4231F-AS (with SD card) mounted in my garage. I setup Motion Detection using a Region for better accuracy on the number of unwanted recordings. This way I only get recordings by movements within the garage itself. This works perfect for recordings on the SD card installed in the camera.

I set the NVR5216-4KS to be exactly the same as the settings within the camera. However, nothing gets recorded to the NVR. Does anyone have any ideas what would cause this?

Wanted to add: Version number 3.216.0000000.0, Build Date: 2018-05-30

I have it set to 24/7 Motion Detection only.

I also have the same camera at the front door, and it records Motion Detection, as well as IVS with no problems.

did you set the proper channel in Storage-Schedule?
