Just ordered the Dahua 8 port PoE switch, PFS3110-8P-96, and a couple Starlight cameras from Andy. Should obtain the computer next week and be up and running. The question is...how to connect it to the network and have attached a schematic with proposed yellow path and pink path. Which is correct - or a variation switching the T and X ports.

The Dahua switch is unique as not required to obligate one of 8 the PoE ports as an upload link, so all 8 are fully useable for cameras. It has 2 additional ports labeled 10/100/1000 Base T and the other 1000 Base X. (not certain what Base X is). The biggest question is how to set up computer, switch and router.

Ignoring the existing system, there for reference only:
YELLOW: This connect the PC directly to the router with its one NIC and connect the switch to the router on the 10/100/1000 Base T, leaving the Base X empty.

PINK: This connects the switch to the router on the 10/100/1000 Base T...then connects the PC to the 1000 Base X also on the switch. Switch the Base T/Base X connections?

Pink would also allow me to eliminate the other switch and connect the existing components directly to the router. Just recently took the printer to wired as it kept losing the wireless connection between print jobs.

Now that I googled Base X, it wouldn't be used. It is for fiber networks where Base T is for twisted pair cabling. So, is yellow the appropriate setup?
 
You might consider adding a second nic to the BI machine and connecting one nic directly to the dahua switch and the other to the ASUS router.

This isolates the cams from the internet but you can still see the BI machine remotely.
 
Yes. Also isolates the camera traffic to the one switch. But mainly a good cheap security measure.
