Hi, I know the general consensus around here is to buy a refurb Dell Optiplex or HP Elitedesk. I have 5 dahua starlight cams coming in and may add at most 1-2 more cameras in the future. I was looking at the Optiplex 7050 (i7-7700, 256gb SSD, 16gb RAM refurb for $720) but realized it only has slot for 1 3.5 hard drive. I was considering using it as a plex server and also NAS. Would it make more sense for me to just build a new computer? Thanks.

Elitedesk tower or precision has room for two... i7-6700 can be had for 400...you have no need for that i7..i5-6500 for 300 is way more than enough.,.
720 is overpriced...

Thanks Fenderman! I appreciate the response. What do you think about me running blue iris, plex, and NAS on the same computer? I will need to figure out how to add HD with the limited storage.

Bad idea...a PC should be dedicated to the vms...buy 2 300 dollar machines... problem solved...

One last question before I pull the trigger on a Precision T3620... do you think the i7-6700 is worth an extra ~$50 over the i5-7500? Thanks!

Yes if you will use higher resolution cams in the future... otherwise it's a waste on your current load...

Fenderman, I'm going to be creating a 28 camera setup utilizing Dahua Starlight ( IPC-HDW5231R-ZE and others) 2MP cameras. I have lots of experiencing building PCs. What kinda horsepower do you recommend? The PC will need to be in a rack mount enclosure (or accommodate being placed in a rack).
