Does having my ip camera send out an email for alerts “ expose” it to internet to be hacked?

I'm by no means an expert, but my Netgear R7800 router allows me to explicitly block my cameras from the internet. All of my notifications originate from BI.
My ASUS router does also.
Ive been testing blue iris out. Looks like it will do exactly what I need.
