Hello Everyone,

I've recently setup my cameras ( 4x IPC-T5442TM-AS ) and I am still using blue iris in demo mode.

One of the cameras has this double image or what you could call a ghost image. I looked through the settings and played with anything i thought was relevant, but nothing seems to get rid of this doubling of the image. Only one camera has this problem.

Most settings are stock, running full resolution 14000 bit rate, 15 fps.

Examples:

This is a different angle, but the same patch of grass as above. Both cameras have the same settings.

For some reason most of us see that the 5442 series cameras need to be ran on CBR instead of VBR.

Make sure you do not have smart codec on and make sure the iframes match the FPS.

Also try plain H264 and not H264H or B or H265.

Okay, gave all those settings a try. Same results. For reference, was always using CBR and just regular x265, no smart codec.

I have an unmounted camera that is identical in focal length, I will swap it out later today and see if it has the same issue.

Here is another example, see the ghost on the wheel well on the left side of the wheel. This is with H264, i frames matching the fps. 15 fps, 14000 bitrate again.

You are digital zooming quite a bit it appears so that will add distortion. Do you have a backlight on like WDR or HLC? What NR are you running - in daytime it could be down into the 20s or 30s?

What does it look like viewing in Internet Explorer and logging into the Camera GUI?

Have you changed any default settings in BI in a quest to try to make the image or storage better? Those always have the opposite effect.

A non digitally zoomed shot would help quite a bit. If you're referring to those white streaks on the door and side panels of the car I think they're lens artifacts from light reflections in the lens elements.

The image looks identical to the direct camera view through the browser. No backlight functions are enabled.

By NR, you mean noise reduction? As far as I know, 3D NR is the only thing on.

Overall it does look a little out of focus as well, especially in the center.

Format is Mpeg-4, no compression or re-encode, saved direct to disk.

These images are from the browser (chrome), no zoom but full screen on 4k monitor then used snipping tool to capture. 3D NR turned off for picture.

I think it may just be a focus problem after looking at this thread.

BI format should be BVR - changing it to MPEG-4 will cause problems.

You still need 3D NR even during the day, try 25 or 30.

But it does look out of focus. Keep in mind that the fixed lens are set for a certain distance, so you might be too close? Or it could be out of focus and that is a "simple" fix.

I switched over to the BVR, other than not viewing while writing, what are other problems?

The full picture of the elantra was with 3d NR on again at value 50.

Here is another picture, 3d NR is 30, and the blue X is about 15 feet from the camera. It's a 3.6mm focal. BVR format.

I notice you can see the double image even on the rock in the red circle about 30ft away.

I think we have tried everything else first to confirm that this is a focus issue and not some other weird setting. It certainly looks out of focus to everything in that image and you have a good distance spread of objects.

I will swap it out with another 3.6 in a couple hours, and report back.

Thanks for the input everyone!

Yep, so do you return or fix yourself - it really is a somewhat simple fix....
