My starlight turret is mounted quite a distance up from my driveway and zoomed in. I want to get a few of these from Andy. IPC-HDW4431EM-AS 3.6mm focal length. I think it should be a good match mounted more level with the driveway. The other will become a bird cam for the feeder I built my wife. Here is the overhead view of the starlight of the driveway. 1494854905217.jpg

I just picked up two of these for $60/ea and installed them Friday to watch the dogs in the yard. Daytime image is good, night is nothing close to my 5231's obviously. The mount feels cheap. Audio seems on par with 5231. Good cam to watch areas that you won't need to ID anyone or to use in conjunction with starlights. For you on the driveway it'll help to have the IR from the starlight camera.

Supposed to be a better camera. Build quality and such. Outside of that I'm not 100% sure.

Doesn't look like it. Looks like the 4431 uses the usual 1/3" sensor that seems to be in most non-Starlight models.

Minimum Illumination for the 5231:
0.006Lux/F1.4 ( Color,1/3s,30IRE)
0.05Lux/F1.4 ( Color,1/30s,30IRE)
0Lux/F1.4 (IR on)

Minimum Illumination for the 4431:
0.08Lux/F2.0( Color,1/3s,30IRE)
0.3Lux/2.0( Color,1/30s,30IRE)
0Lux/F2.0(IR on)

I know the 5231 blows them both out of the water, was just wondering what the difference was between HDW-4431EM-AS and HDW-4431C-A. Might just be the housing. I cant find a spec sheet on the C-A, maybe because it's the international version?

Crap, I misread the OP as having a 4231 (fixed Starlight turret), not a 4431. Sorry about that. So now I'm confused about if the picture is from the 4231 Starlight or a 4431 4MP not-Starlight.

From reading the AliExpress pages selling the -C, it looks like the same size sensor as the -EM.

I think the -C is the Chinese version, which is why it's so inexpensive, but has some non-metal parts and the firmware may not be upgradeable.

Since they're priced about the same, are you looking at the 4431s over the Starlight 4231s to get the extra megapixels? (4MP vs 2MP?)

Price is much cheaper for the 4mp. Only reason. Andy gave me a reasonable price on the metal housing upgradeable model.

Gotcha. He's got the 4MP 4431's listed at $129 on his EmpireTec Ali store. Guess he's got a forum deal if you hit him up privately?

I have a few of the IPC-HDW4431EM-AS and it's certainly a decent camera.
Much better then the Chinese only turrets/domes.
Certainly spreads IR in a more uniform fashion which is an advantage for up close targets compared to the HFW4431R-Z which tends to white out peoples faces at close range.

While it's not a starlight, it certainly does well compared to other cameras at its price point.

I'm about to get some IPC-HDW4231EM-AS so I'm keen to see the night time performance difference between the two.

I've got other starlights but it's nice to compare two almost identical models. :)

..And at daytime / or inside with bright light, IPC-HDW4431EM-AS vs. IPC-HDW4231EM-AS see any differences? 4M, or 2M with better cmos, hmm? Same price.. This is unclear.
C version is cheaper china ver. plastic, and not be upgradeable.

I'm buying 2 of the better non starlight models. They fit my Starlight Turret wall mount for me to mount at my driveway. Have solid soffit area to mount for my wife's bird cam. Leaves me some extra change to order 3 IR floods to cover back yard area.
