DS-7608NI-E2/8P Can I just swap-out my old (poss faulty) Hard Drive, or will it need configuring as a new install ?

Hi all,

My first post, so please bear with me (previously I've found all answers on the forum without posting).

I have a Hikvision DS-7608NI-E2/8P. Yesterday I noticed it was randomly beeping. I've checked all cables and turned it off/on etc but to no avail. It is streaming CCTV ok, but there are no recordings from yesterday, and it won't record now either. From looking at other posts it seems the Hard Drive may have corrupt. I've just ordered another one, but does anyone know is it a case of just swapping them out, or will I need to install all the cameras/passwords/settings again like a fresh install ?

Another thought, is if I can read the data from the old HDD, are there any files I can copy across to the new one that will save all the previous settings/configuration ?

For info:
The old hard drive was a Seagate Surveillance HDD 4TB, ST4000VX000
The new one is a Seagate Skyhawk Surveillance HDD 4TB ST4000VX007

Any help would be appreciated

thanks
David

The system configuration is stored in the flash memory, so it will be retained over an HDD swap.
But good practice anyway would be to export both the device and camera configurations and store the resulting files in a labelled safe location.
System logs, event and VCA and video data will be on the HDD.

You can get a good indication of the HDD hardware status by checking the SMART data - under the NVR web GUI Storage menu.
If that shows no attributes of concern, the HDD is probably OK.

Check out why the NVR is beeping by checking the system log for Exception events.
