DS-7716NI-SP less features than the actual camera

I am really starting to not be that happy with this NVR

Few things that are irking me, I hope maybe a firmware upgrade or something I don't have set right can fix.

1st one is it does not have the ability to overlay text on a non hikvision camera
2nd is I lose all of the cameras motion detection options like line crossing and intrusion detection
I figured out how to use the the smart detection on the camera and send it to the dvr, in the camera settings under events select the type of motion detection you want to use set the arming schedule you want to use (I use continuous) then under linkage methods select Notify Surveillance Center and Trigger Channel, save.

3rd does not have the ability to playback all the channels at once via the web access (possible with iVMS-4200)

I really wanted to integrate this into my home automation system so I could have some smart motion detection zones with reliable video back up, are there any pros out there that use this model for anything other than simple motion trigger recording?

Or maybe some literature that describes in detail all of the settings.
